Pé Amidala was a character's infatuation with the Sith Lord, emphasizing that any attempt to romance the fallen Jedi was doomed to despair. As expected, as with anyone who offends Vader, the ill-fated character's dream of love turns into a nightmare.

Darth Vader Force projects metal shards

Star Wars: Vader--Dark Visions #3 follows an unnamed Imperial nurse who can’t take her eyes off of Darth Vader from the first of the issue. The nurse’s responsibilities mainly include prepping the medical bay before Vader’s appointments, and cleaning up the aftermath. She envies her boss, Vader’s personal doctor, for his ability to get up close and personal with the man behind the mask, dismissing the fact that the doctor lives in fear daily, and continuing to idealize Vader while scheming to become closer to him herself.

In the end, the nurse has a full break from reality and enters Vader’s private chambers, where the nurse finds Vader with his helmet off, and is abruptly dispatched with a lightsaber through the chest.

The nurse’s obsession with Darth Vader becomes more delusion as the issue progresses, as she convinces herself that Vader is in love with her as much as she is with him. Eventually, her obsession manifests itself as thievery, as she steals lab equipment and Vader's cloak. These brazen acts ultimately get her caught by her boss, who throws her collection into the incinerator. In the end, the nurse has a full break from reality and enters Vader’s private chambers, where the nurse finds Vader with his helmet off, and is abruptly dispatched with a lightsaber through the chest.

Anakin Skywalker's ionate Love Was Instrumental In His Downfall, Creating The Heartless Sith Lord Darth Vader

As depicted in the Prequel Trilogy, as well as the Clone Wars animated series, Anakin Skywalker was unable to achieve the critical detachment that the Jedi Order demanded of him. In other words, even as a Jedi Knight, he was ruled by ion and love – and this was instrumental in his downfall. Typically, Star Wars fans consider there to be a sharp divide between Anakin and Vader, but the tragedy of the character relies on the fact that they are, in truth, one and the same.

Star Wars: Dark Visions #3 is particularly interesting given how it exemplifies this through Vader's response to the nurse's intrusion into his space. The nurse's swift demise emphasizes that there was never any chance of getting close to Vader – not because he is "evil," but because he refuses to let anyone close to him, nor would he even consider the thought of romance, even if he wasn't encased in his suit, with anyone other than Pe. In this way, Dark Visions #3 is an underrated Star Wars tale, and an all-time great Darth Vader comic book story.
