Rey Skywalker actress Daisy Ridley has given a brand-new update on Rey's updates on New Jedi Order, particularly regarding the story, have been thin.
According to Collider, during their event that included an early screening of Daisy Ridley's new movie Magpie and a Q&A with the actress, Magpie screenwriter Tom Bateman, and Ridley's co-star Shazad Latif, Ridley provided some new information about the progress of New Jedi Order. Per Collider, Ridley shared:
"Things are evolving. I continue to be very excited. There will be an update soon."
While this may seem like minimal news, this update is the first Star Wars has given in some time regarding New Jedi Order, and, in light of the recent updates, Ridley's comments suggest the movie may finally be making progress.
What Daisy Ridley's Latest Comments Mean For Star Wars
Part of the reason Ridley's relatively brief comments about New Jedi Order are significant is because, thus far, there has been very little movement on the movie. Recently, Ridley confirmed once again that she had yet to see a script for the movie, suggesting that one still hadn't been completed. While Ridley nevertheless stated that she was very excited based on conversations surrounding the story the movie would tell, Ridley's new comments finally hint that a script may be underway.
Her reference to updates coming 'soon' was also ambiguous, but it could nod towards Star Wars' massive event, Star Wars Celebration, which will take place in Japan from April 18-20, 2025. With how little Star Wars has announced of late, it's long been suspected that this event would be when multiple projects, known and unknown, would finally receive major updates. Based on Ridley's comments, that could certainly be the case, but it's also quite possible that news on New Jedi Order will arrive sooner than that.
Our Take On Rey's Return
Even without a script or story details confirmed, Rey's Star Wars movie has already become controversial. This is a continuation of the controversy and criticism surrounding the Star Wars sequel trilogy, about which discourse (especially when it comes to negative perceptions) is still pervasive to this day. It is also symptomatic of the general climate of the fanbase at present, which most recently consisted of intense backlash against The Acolyte.

Every Star Wars Movie, Ranked Worst To Best
Looking at all nine Skywalker Saga entries and three spinoffs, we crown the best Star Wars movie in our full ranking of the galaxy far, far away.
In spite of the noise and negativity, I remain excited about New Jedi Order and Daisy Ridley's Star Wars return as Rey. This movie will introduce a new era in the franchise and will grapple with what it looks like for the galaxy to move on without Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and so many characters who have proven so essential. Star Wars: New Jedi Order really is primed to turn over a new leaf in Star Wars, and I find that to be a thrilling prospect—as does, it seems, Daisy Ridley.

The tenth mainline installment in the Star Wars franchise is the first movie to follow the sequel trilogy, where Mark Hamill's Luke, Carrie Fisher's Leia, and Harrison Ford's Han Solo gave their final farewell. After the release of The Rise of Skywalker, development on a direct sequel had become dormant as Disney shifted focus on other parts of the galaxy, namely, Disney+ shows such as The Mandalorian, Andor, and Ahsoka. However, a movie starring Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker was officially announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023.
