Will Rey's New Jedi Order Movie Finally See Finn Become A Jedi?

The Star Wars Sequel Trilogy Teased That Finn Could Be Force-Sensitive.

Finn's return narratively makes sense, but will largely depend on whether Boyega wants to return to the franchise.

Ridley is currently the only actor confirmed for the new Star Wars movie set after the conclusion of the Skywalker saga. Finn's close bond with Rey, his nascent Force-sensitivity, and his divisive reception to his arc in The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker make Boyega's potential return to the franchise an exciting prospect.

Everything Daisy Ridley Has Revealed (& Hinted) About Her Next Star Wars Movie

Daisy Ridley has been doing the rounds, and she's dropped quite a few hints about Rey's next Star Wars movie - and the New Jedi Order...

While Finn has not become a Jedi yet in Star Wars canon, he is in The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special and LEGO Star Wars: Summer Vacation, where he trains under Rey and communicates with the Force ghosts of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Leia Organa. These LEGO specials are not canon, but they made the possibility of Finn being a Jedi all the more tantalizing. The new Star Wars movie featuring Rey feels like a natural place to make Finn a Jedi in canon, which will provide more payoff for the hints of his Force-sensitivity in the sequel trilogy.

With fifteen years ing between The Rise of Skywalker and the movie about the new Jedi Order, Finn may already be a full-fledged Jedi who has trained with Rey and developed a deep connection with the Force. This could allow both Rey and Finn to be co-leaders of the new Jedi Order movie as they find and train a new generation of Jedi. Despite the time jump, the story could also see Finn just beginning his training, perhaps because he’s been occupied with hunting down remnants of the First Order or helping to reestablish the New Republic.

Finn's return narratively makes sense, but will largely depend on whether Boyega wants to return to the franchise. Boyega has spoken openly about the racist attacks he faced since his casting as Finn was first announced, along with his frustrations about the way his character's arc was handled after The Force Awakens. He later said he is "open" to returning to Star Wars, although it would be completely understandable if he chose not to re the franchise.

Finn's appearances in The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker, The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special, and Lego Star Wars: Summer Vacation are available to stream on Disney+.

After the release of The Rise of Skywalker, development on a direct sequel had become dormant as Disney shifted focus on other parts of the galaxy, namely, Disney+ shows such as The Mandalorian, Andor, and Ahsoka. However, a movie starring Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker was officially announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023.
