Tony Gilroy is returning to handled by Tony Gilroy primarily, with original director Gareth Edwards still involved. All of the turmoil was worth it in the end though, as Rogue One was well-received and made over $1 billion worldwide.

The clear success of the movie complicated the massive success of the standalone adventure, which ended with all of its main cast dying. However, Lucasfilm has found other avenues to expand some of their stories and that will soon transfer to Disney+. Diego Luna is set to reprise his role as Cassian Andor in the Rogue One prequel series. Its also been confirmed that Alan Tudyk will reprise his role as the fan-favorite robot K-2SO, and it's now been revealed that Gilroy is ing the Rogue One reunion.

Gilroy is going to be involved with the untitled Cassian Andor series in a large capacity according to a new report by showrunner Stephen Schiff, who remains attached to the "spy thriller" series. He has experience in that genre beyond his work on Rogue One too, as Gilroy wrote the first four Bourne movies and directed The Bourne Legacy.

In the aftermath of his work on Rogue One, Gilroy has been very vocal about just how much trouble the film was in before he got involved. He went as far as to say that he's never even been interested in Star Wars and "had no reverence for it whatsoever." But, he clearly demonstrated to Disney and Lucasfilm an ability to help them. Since he already has a history with these characters and period in the franchise, Gilroy should be an easy and great fit in the series.

The timing of Gilroy's addition is also noteworthy as the Cassian series is confirmed to 2021 release on Disney+ already confirmed and The Mandalorian's approaching roll-out, it won't be long before the Cassian Andor show starts making news on a regular basis.
