  • The Bad Batch season 3 trailer hints at Boba Fett's relationships with other bounty hunters, setting the stage for further exploration of his character's history.

Two years after Boba Fett’s Disney+ disaster, Boba Fett is part of Star Wars’ iconography – despite having such a limited role in the original Star Wars trilogy, he made an undeniable impact on the franchise, spawning a plethora of fascinating Star Wars Legends stories and inspiring the creation of the Mandalorian mythos. When Boba Fett was brought back in The Mandalorian season 2, it seemed as though the character had come to claim his rightful place within the Star Wars universe, but unfortunately, things turned out differently.

The Book of Boba Fett could have been so much more. But, under the weight of The Mandalorian’s legacy and narrative needs, The Book of Boba Fett faltered. Though it should have been a story about Fett, his history, his rivalries, his aspirations to seize power on Tatooine, and his relationship with Fennec Shand, the focus instead shifted to Din Djarin and Grogu, and Boba was sidelined in his own show. The Disney+ series killed any momentum the character may have had, but now, almost two years after it premiered, Boba could make his mark on the franchise once more.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Has Massive Ties To Boba Fett's Origin Story

Star Wars: The Bad Batch is inextricably linked to Boba Fett’s origin story. The Bad Batch, which takes place soon after the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the horrific violence of Order 66, focuses on the plight of the clones after the Empire’s rise to power. Boba is, first and foremost, a clone – but Boba is no ordinary clone. As he was unaltered, he did not age as rapidly as the standard clone soldiers did, and he had a genuine father-son relationship with Jango Fett (the clone template for the Grand Army of the Republic).

The Bad Batch has also been instrumental in tying the Star Wars prequel era to the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Palpatine’s cloning plans are a massive part of The Bad Batch’s story. The Empire’s Advanced Science Division has been blackmailing Kamino’s chief scientist to aid their research – Boba Fett’s status as the first unaltered clone could, as such, play a part in Palpatine’s cloning story.

The Bad Batch Has Unveiled Two New Sisters For Boba Fett

Though most clone soldiers see each other as brothers, Boba’s story is a little different. Jango Fett claimed Boba as his son, and given Boba didn’t age as rapidly as the other clones did, he was able to forge his own path and follow his own desires. The Bad Batch introduced two other clones who were created under similar circumstances – Omega, a rare female unaltered clone introduced in The Bad Batch season 1, and Emerie Karr, a scientist working for the Empire, who revealed that she, too, was a clone, and called herself Omega’s “sister” in The Bad Batch season 2 finale.

Boba Fett Has A Second Sister: Shocking Star Wars Twist Explained

The Bad Batch season 2 finale revealed a surprise twist that Boba Fett and Omega have a sister: Dr. Hemlock’s scientist Emerie Karr.

Given the unique conditions of their birth, Boba and Omega could be considered siblings – their DNA was unaltered, meaning that biologically, they are closer to Jango Fett than any other clone. Though it has yet to be revealed whether Emerie’s DNA was unaltered, too, she may be the same age as Boba himself and could even have been born at the same time as him. Whatever the case may be, Boba respected his father massively, and if he ever discovered that he had siblings, he would undoubtedly be interested in finding out more. The Bad Batch season 3 could potentially feature a family reunion.

The Bad Batch Season 3 Trailer Has Massive Bounty Hunter Connections

Boba Fett isn’t just a clone, though. Like his father before him, Boba became a skilled bounty hunter after Jango Fett died in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. One arc in The Clone Wars showed Boba teaming up with Asajj Ventress, a former Sith apprentice turned bounty hunter who was prominently featured in The Bad Batch season 3 trailer. Later, Ventress hires his team to help her on a mission in the novel Star Wars: Dark Disciple by Christie Golden. If Ventress has been hired by Clone Force 99 to help recover Omega, there’s every chance Boba could become involved, too.

Also included in The Bad Batch season 3 trailer is Cad Bane; he and Boba have an interesting, albeit underexplored, history. Before the Clone Wars, Bane was mentored by Boba’s father. Later, Bane mentored Boba, and the two eventually even worked together (off-screen) in The Clone Wars season 4, episode 15, “Deception.” Dave Filoni once confirmed that an unfinished arc of The Clone Wars would have depicted the history between these two characters, which came to a violent end in The Book of Boba Fett. If Cad Bane has a prominent role in The Bad Batch season 3, Boba may very well be included.

Fennec Shand is also featured in The Bad Batch season 3 trailer. As The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett have proven, Boba and Fennec eventually strike up a mutually respectful, successful working partnership. Though The Book of Boba Fett depicts their first official meeting, with Boba saving Fennec’s life in the harsh Tatooine desert, their paths could still have crossed before. When Fennec first hears Boba’s name, she looks visibly frightened. They could very well have been after the same bounty at the same time without ever actually running into one another during the time of The Bad Batch.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3 premieres February 21 only on Disney+.

It's Time To Bring Boba Fett Back

Boba fett is not a villain clone wars proved that

The Bad Batch season 3 is the perfect opportunity to bring back Boba Fett and explore his character further during his younger days. Aside from a few canon comics, a sparse number of appearances in The Clone Wars, and his young debut in Attack of the Clones, Boba’s character before the original trilogy has been woefully underexplored. Utilizing Boba in The Bad Batch season 3 would also allow the franchise to further explore his relationship with his father, his feelings about the way he was born, and his volatile dynamic with Cad Bane. He should be part of the clones’ ultimate story.

The Book of Boba Fett provided a shallow exploration of this iconic character, but he could be so much more. With The Mandalorian movie on the way, and Grand iral Thrawn’s perilous return to the galaxy confirmed, Din Djarin and the Mandalorians are going to need all the help they can get – Boba is very likely to be called upon. Boba’s inclusion in The Bad Batch would only create more excitement around his character, something which is sorely needed after The Book of Boba Fett’s unfortunate failure. With The Bad Batch, Star Wars has the opportunity to do right by Boba Fett.
