The idea of familial bonds, both found and biological, is such a huge part of Star Wars and one of the many themes that have resonated so wonderfully with fans for over forty years. With families, no matter how big or small, there tend to be parents and heads, of which the Star Wars Galaxy has many that help raises and care for the various heroes in the saga.
Whether they be the adoptive father figures, fearless mothers, or a pair of outstanding guardians, there are a slew of great parents in Star Wars that fans and characters alike respect, if not love.
Leia Organa
In the sequel trilogy, audiences do not get to see Kylo and Leia interact face to face, so they do not see that motherly side of Leia in its full capacity.
However, the faith and love she had for her son, as well as the unspoken connection they are shown to have, speaks for itself. Leia gave her last breath to help Ben, and because of her, Ben returned to the light, seeing the error of his ways. While they parted ways when Ben was a child, it does not make her a bad mother. This relationship showcased the struggle of motherhood and how it is not always straightforward.
Venisa Doza
Venisa Doza will not be known to a ton of Star Wars fans, but she is a character in Star Wars: Resistance and the mother of Torra Doza, whose father, Imanuel Doza, also deserves a shoutout.
Any mother in Star Wars such as Venisa who balances being a good, loving mother with being a fierce, kickass fighter for the greater good in the Galaxy, with Venisa fighting against both the Empire and the First Order, deserves huge props for being a total badass.
Galen Erso
Galen Erso is one of the more underrated Star Wars characters and unquestionably a crucial part in helping the rebellion destroy the Death Star, planting a weakness in it for Jyn and the rebels to find and exploit.
While audiences do not see Galen be a parent too much, he shaped Jyn and was clearly adored by his daughter. Their final meeting, the hologram message, and Galen's willingness to do anything to both protect his family and help them live safely in the Galaxy are to be ired.
Hunter & Clone Force 99
The standout aspect of The Bad Batch's first season was Omega and the relationship she has with her guardians of Clone Force 99, especially Hunter, who acts as the adoptive father for the young clone.
The two have a beautiful bond that grows with every episode and is consistently a highlight of the first season. Hunter shows patience, kindness, and love for Omega even though he struggles immensely with this newfound responsibility and the whole experience, which is way out of his comfort zone. Fans of the show are excited to see more of this bond in seasons.
Owen & Beru Lars
The first set of parents/guardians that audiences are introduced to in Star Wars (except for Vader, who fans did not know to be a father at that point) was Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, stern but loving guardians of Luke back on Tatooine.
Owen especially gets a lot of flack, and that is understandable; he was hard on Luke and had a severe dislike of Obi-Wan. However, both gave their lives to adopting Luke following Pé's death and Anakin's fall, which is especially irable when it is considered that they are not even blood relatives to either of them.
As a guardian to both Anakin and Luke, Obi-Wan also deserves a special mention as one of the most incredible and irable father figures in Star Wars, a status likely to be improved by the especially after the teaser trailer revealed a young Luke Skywalker.
Bail & Breha Organa
While Luke grew up in the sand oceans of Tatooine, Leia grew up royalty, fighting for the rebellion from a young age and being raised by the underappreciated and heroic Breha and Bail Organa.
Even if fans never see them interact on-screen, the fact they irably chose to adopt Leia and the fact Leia grew up to be one of the most fearless, wonderful heroes the Galaxy has ever or will ever see is a testament to them as much as it is to the Skywalker blood.
Shmi Skywalker
Anakin Skywalker had a rough upbringing as a slave on Tatooine, but it was made all the better, all the easier, and all the more filled with love by his mother, Shmi, who proved her strength as well as her brilliance as a mother in The Phantom Menace alone.
She so vehemently cared for Anakin before anything and everything else, including but not limited to her own freedom. On top of that, despite her rough life stuck in slavery, she raised him to value traits of kindness and honesty, proving not just how incredible of a mother she was, but a person in general.
Kanan Jarrus & Hera Syndulla
Hera Syndulla's own father Cham deserves a shoutout for being a badass fighter as well as a father who, despite making mistakes, loved his daughter. Hera and Kanan, though, are a special duo who act as parents and guardians to numerous individuals.
The two have, arguably, Star Wars' best romance and together act as mother and father figures to Ezra and Sabine (both of whom have irable biological parents). Not only that though, but the two have their own son together, whom Hera is undoubtedly raising to be a force for good in the Galaxy. Hopefully, the pair pop up together in canon soon, perhaps in the Rogue Squadron. The two teach so much to those who are under their care or who are part of their family and put their safety and their growth above almost anything else.
Din Djarin
In only two seasons of one of the best Star Wars duos in history and one of the best father/son duos in pop culture.
The way Din grows because of Grogu and the way the two form such a natural, emotional connection with one another is so beautiful to watch. More so than money, the politics of the Galaxy, any other person in the Galaxy, and even more so than the Mandalorian creed itself, Din values Grogu and in turn, Grogu loves his adoptive father.
Cut & Suu Lawquane
Cut and Suu Lawquane may not be as mainstream as the parents like Owen and Beru, Han and Leia, or Pé and Anakin, but they may well have the most stable family life in all of Star Wars.
Cut - a deserted clone - and Suu have two children (whom Suu had prior to her marriage to Cut) and raise them together, putting them ahead of everything else in the Galaxy and fighting to protect them to no end. They are a fantastic couple, and fans of The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch truly appreciate how brilliant a pair of parents they are.
