EA and DICE have been moving Star Wars multiplayer game just received a particularly great update. The so-called "BB Update" added several new features that bring Battlefront 2's library of content closer to completion, with new heroes and more available eras for certain modes.
Since its notoriously rocky, "Battlefront 3" sequel, but the developer is already on its way to making many of the needed changes in updates for the existing game.
The BB Update marked the last of Battlefront 2 Clone Wars content, so being able to play it on new maps with new heroes and reinforcements adds needed variety to the game. The sequel-era Supremacy maps also came with new capital ship areas for the Resistance and First Order, both of which are gorgeous and distinct from other locations seen in multiplayer.
In addition to the new era for Supremacy and Instant action, the BB Update added the BB-9E hero for the First Order and the surprisingly murderous BB-8 hero for the Resistance. Each plays quite differently from other heroes, allowing players to zip around the new Supremacy maps and aid their teams in capturing Command Posts. DICE also added several quality-of-life improvements, new emotes and animations for heroes, and more. One strange negative did come with the update, though: Galactic Assault, the main multiplayer mode prior to Supremacy's introduction, has been relegated to a "More" sub-menu, rather than appearing on the main multiplayer menu. Galactic Assault was already less populated than Supremacy, but this could kill the mode entirely.
While the content added in the BB Update helps Battlefront 2 feel like a more well-rounded game, the news of what's coming next might be even more exciting. DICE confirmed that, with its sequel-era drops complete, it will next turn its attention to the original trilogy. That means the return of the 2015 Battlefront's Scarif map from Rogue One, which will more original-trilogy maps in Co-op and Supremacy. Players will finally be able to enjoy Battlefront 2's best modes in any era they like. Once that's done, Battlefront 2 will feel more like the Star Wars sandbox it was meant to be.
No release date has been announced for Battlefront 2's original trilogy-era content, but DICE said it will reveal more info later this month (February 2020).
