WARNING! Spoilers ahead for Andor season 2, episodes 7, 8, and 9!Emperor Palpatine. Some of this storyline had already been explored in other Star Wars titles, but Andor does nothing but add to the senator from Chandrila’s arc.
While Tony Gilroy had a lot of source material to pull from to pull off Mon Mothma’s defection, he and the other creators of Andor did a great job of not stepping on parts of the story that were already told. While other aspects of Yavin 4 at the end of Andor season 2, episode 9, you can still find the missing parts of her story elsewhere.

Andor Avoids Showing Mon Mothma's Rallying Cry To The Rebels
There Was One More Rousing Speech She Gave
Andor put a large focus on Mon Mothma’s speech she gave to the Imperial Senate and how she denounced both the emperor and the genocide of the people of Ghorman. The speech was beautifully given by Genieve O’Reilly and perfectly encapsulated Mon Mothma’s guiding light: the truth. However, fans of Star Wars Rebels know that Mon Mothma gave another speech that was broadcast across the galaxy with the hope of unifying different rebel cells to officially form the Rebel Alliance.

"Rebellions Are Built on Hope" - 30 Andor Season 2 Episodes 7-9 Easter Eggs And References To Rogue One, Rebels, And More
Andor season 2 episodes 7-9 features a wide collection of Easter eggs and references to Rogue One, Star Wars Rebels, and more from the greater galaxy.
While that speech was also moving and empowering, it didn’t fit with the story Andor was telling. The whole point of Mon Mothma’s senatorial speech was that she directly implicates Palpatine and puts the death of the Ghormans at his feet.
While Andor is all about the Rebellion, it’s about the little, individual acts of rebellion, not the politics of uniting different rebel cells. It’s odd that Mon Mothma’s story isn’t totally complete in Andor; in fact, the show goes out of its way to avoid showing or discussing the events in Rebels, but it’s understandable considering the tonal differences of the two shows.
Where To Watch The Rest Of Mon Mothma's Story
Star Wars Rebels Also Features Mon Mothma’s Escape From The Empire
In Rebels season 3, episode 18, “Secret Cargo,” the missing scenes from Andor and Mon Mothma’s journey to get to Yavin 4 are shown. While en route to Yavin 4 with Gold Squadron, Grand iral Thrawn attempts to intercept the Senator, and in the process damages her transport, forcing her to take refuge aboard the Ghost. While it was a close call, including the loss of most of Gold Squadron, Mon Mothma is eventually out of harm's way, and she makes a powerful speech that is supposed to unite different rebel cells.
The end of Mothma’s speech is more hopeful, as she aims to use her speech to show that there are allies to be found in the galaxy.
In her speech aboard the Ghost, Mon Mothma echoes many of the sentiments we saw in Andor, but in a much more family-friendly way. While we can chalk this up to Rebels being a kids' show and Andor being aimed more at adults, Mothma still talks about how Palpatine and the Empire have been eliminating the safety of the people of the galaxy. However, the end of Mothma’s speech is more hopeful, as she aims to use her speech to show that there are allies to be found in the galaxy and that she hopes they can all work together.
Andor Even Gives A Nod To Rebels
They Even Said They Want to Rewrite The Story
After meeting at the safe house on Coruscant, Kleya explains to Cassian that Mon Mothma and her aide, Erskin Semaj, will be taking a different ship to Yavin because the Rebel leaders want her to make a speech. While we know that the speech is the one we’ve seen in Rebels, Kleya also comments that the Rebel leaders want to rewrite the story of Mon Mothma’s defection and essentially make it into a rallying cry, which is what it was shown as in Rebels.

Andor Season 2: Trailer, Story, Updates, & Everything We Know
Andor season 1 ended with an explosive finale, leading many to wonder what season 2 has in store for the characters of Star Wars’ most exciting show.
So, while Andor did retcon some things from Mon Mothma’s defection, they largely left the events of Rebels alone. This also holds true to what Kleya said; Rebels is just another rewriting of the same story. In both shows, Mon Mothma’s message was the same, even if her speeches were phrased differently. While there likely won’t be any more close overlaps with shows like Rebels in the final three episodes of Andor, it’s not impossible to see retcons of other stories.
New episodes of Andor premiere Tuesdays at 9 PM EST/6 PM PST.
