Warning! SPOILERS for The Book of Boba Fett episode 6.

Luke Skywalker is training Grogu in the ways of the Jedi, but why does Ahsoka Tano seem perfectly fine with this when she previously refused to train him? The Mandalorian season 3 with its most recent episode, again focusing almost entirely on Din Djarin. Following Fennec Shand's request that Djarin aide Boba Fett in his fight against the Pyke Syndicate, the Mandalorian first checks in on his former foundling and has a surprise reunion with Ahsoka.

When Din Djarin first met Ahsoka during The Mandalorian season 2, he was hopeful she would be the Jedi to train Grogu. While she left the order just prior to the end of the Clone Wars, Ahsoka remains a powerful Force and is more than adept with a lightsaber. Jedi or not, Ahsoka would have made a fine teacher. Ultimately, though, she declines to become Grogu's master because of the deep affection she can sense from Grogu for Djarin. As Ahsoka knows perhaps better than most, such attachments have in the past led Jedi to turn to the dark side - as was the case with her former master, Anakin Skywalker.

In The Book of Boba Fett episode 6, "From the Desert Comes a Stranger," Din Djarin travels to the mysterious forest planet where Luke is training Grogu. However, Djarin does not reunite with Grogu and is instead met by Ahsoka. While speaking with her, Djarin questions why Ahsoka appears all right with Luke's decision to train Grogu when she would not. She answers, "Because it was his choice," explaining that she cannot control what others decide to do. While that is certainly an explanation, were Ahsoka truly opposed to Luke's training of Grogu, she surely could have intervened. As she hasn't intervened and, in fact, appears to be in of Luke training Grogu and creating a school for the next generation of Jedi, there's likely a deeper reason why.

Luke Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano in The Book of Boba Fett

Watching Ahsoka Tano and Luke Skywalker interact is a treat, but their familiarity means this is not at all the first time they've crossed paths. Star Wars has yet to depict the very first meeting between Ahsoka and Luke, but it's almost certain that the two will have discussed the person who mostly closely connects them: Anakin. As such, Ahsoka is surely aware of what happened on the Death Star the day the Emperor was defeated, and of how Anakin turned back to the light side with the help of his son. She likely also knows that when Luke was tempted by the dark side, he was able to withstand its pull, even when those he cares about most were in danger. For Ahsoka, there is no one better suited to help Grogu avoid Anakin's mistakes than Luke, and this is why she finds it acceptable for Luke to be the one to train Grogu.

Tragically, Luke's dream of bringing about the next generation of Jedi will not go as planned. As seen in the Star Wars sequel movies, Luke's fear over his nephew Ben being tempted by the dark side will lead him to act rashly. As a result, Ben becomes Kylo Ren and murders his fellow students, destroying Luke's hope of rebuilding the Jedi order. It's still unclear if Grogu will escape this fate, though The Book of Boba Fett episode 6 does introduce a path that would spare Grogu. It's also unknown how Ahsoka factors into this later development, if at all. For now, with the promise that Luke can help Grogu learn to control his immense power and volatile emotions, Ahsoka sees no better option than allowing Grogu to train with Luke.
