Warning: Spoilers for Star Wars #1!Four simple words usher in a new era for the Star Wars franchise. The new comic will serve as a sequel series that will bridge the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Mandalorian. While The Mandalorian and the sequel trilogy of movies gave fans a long-awaited follow-up to the original trilogy, the new Star Wars embarks on showing readers everything that happened in between.

The new era for the franchise kicks off in style through four simple words uttered by Princess Leia in Star Wars #1. A preview of the issue to come can be found below ahead of its May 7 release date. In addition to the official pages, readers can find the story's main cover art by Phil Noto.

"Let's get to work," says Princess Leia. Her statement is as vital in-universe for the story Star Wars #1 is telling as much as it is a statement to the reader in kickstarting a new stage of storytelling for the franchise.

Following the end of the original trilogy, the official end of the Galactic War would culminate in the Battle of Jakku, a pivotal point in Star Wars history that would be covered in the comics. Although the Battle of Jakku's comics were released to mixed results, it nonetheless served as more or less an epilogue for the end of the original trilogy. Still, though, Disney and Marvel had yet to truly depict what happened between the original cinematic trilogy and that of the sequels. That's where this new Star Wars series comes into play.

This new Star Wars series exists to put readers on a journey never before seen. The first few pages of Star Wars #1 sees Princess Leia meeting with political leaders aware that her team has won the war, but is determined to not lose a sense of urgency in bettering the galaxy. "We didn't fight these battles -- these wars --- to merely sit back and savor the victory," as Leia puts it. Appropriately, now is the time to get to work.

While this line, in context, refers to Leia wanting to start her ensuing work on Chandrila for the trade summit, this piece of dialogue can also be considered meta. In meta, this can be viewed as the creative team communicating to Star Wars readers that now is the time to get to work on a new era for the franchise. More specifically, now is the time to lay the groundwork for what will become of the sequel trilogy of movies.

Again, there is a big gap between the original Star Wars movies and the sequel franchise, meaning the sequels allude to only so much information that took place before The Force Awakens, often through ing lines of dialogue. Readers can speculate that the contents of this series will mark a big turning point in expanding the lore within that gap and setting the stage for what happens in the sequel. Time will tell as the story unfolds, but Princess Leia says it best that now is the time for the new dawn of Star Wars to get to work.

Star Wars #1 will be available from Marvel starting May 7.
