Warning: SPOILERS for Star Trek: Picard Season 3, Episode 7 - "Dominion"Star Trek: Picard season 3 brought back Tuvok (Tim Russ) for a surprise cameo appearance, but how old is Tuvok in 2401? Tuvok was the beloved Vulcan tactical and security officer on Star Trek: Voyager, but barring a brief non-speaking cameo in Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: Picard season 3 is the first time audiences have seen Tuvok back in the franchise since the early 2000s. Tuvok's cameo in Picard season 3 adds yet another well-known Star Trek name to the season's long list of popular character returns, coming on the heels of Ro Laren (Michelle Forbes) appearing in episode 5.
Tuvok's return came at the very beginning of Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 7, "Dominion", in a scene that unfortunately revealed that the Vulcan had been captured and was now being impersonated by a Changeling. The scene left a lot of unanswered questions about the real Tuvok's eventual fate, although it luckily confirmed that the Vulcan is still alive for the time being, despite facing captivity and torture at the hands of the Changelings. While not all of these questions can't be answered yet, more basic questions such as Tuvok's current age can be.
How Old Tuvok Is In Star Trek: Picard Season 3
Based on evidence from previous series', Tuvok is 137 years old in Star Trek: Picard season 3. While some episodes of Star Trek: Voyager called Tuvok's age into question, season 3, episode 2, "Flashback" featured a scene where Tuvok definitively stated his age on-screen. During "Flashback" Tuvok told Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) that he was 29 years old at the time of his service onboard the USS Excelsior during the events of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. The film was set in 2293, which puts Tuvok's birth year as 2264. With Tuvok's birth year determined, it becomes easy to calculate his age at any point in the Star Trek timeline, including in Star Trek: Picard.
Tuvok's service onboard the Excelsior lasted until 2296, but the Vulcan resigned his commission after leaving the Excelsior, disillusioned with Starfleet due to his interactions with humans. After marrying and having children, however, Tuvok returned to Starfleet in 2349, at the age of 85. By 2371, he was serving under Captain Janeway onboard the USS Voyager and was part of Voyager's crew during the ship's seven-year journey through the Delta Quadrant. At the start of Voyager's journey, Tuvok was 107, and by the end, he was 114. After Voyager returned to the Alpha Quadrant, Tuvok's next appearance in the Star Trek franchise was as part of the investigative team looking into the bombing of Pakled Planet, initially pinned on Captain Carol Freeman (Dawnn Lewis). The investigation took place in 2381, making Tuvok 117 at the time.
Will Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Kill Tuvok?
Although the Changeling impersonating Tuvok in Star Trek: Picard did make it clear that the real Tuvok is still alive, there is no guarantee that he'll stay that way. Changeling Tuvok sinisterly told Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) that when he and his coconspirators were done with their plans for the Federation, death would be a welcome alternative. This statement certainly doesn't bode well for Tuvok's chances of making it out alive, but these chances have been somewhat improved by Tim Russ' reveal on Twitter that he would be appearing as Tuvok in another episode of Picard season 3. Hopefully, the next time audiences see Tuvok on-screen, he'll be alive and well, but at the moment it's very possible that Star Trek: Picard might be Tuvok's final appearance in the franchise.
