The true, Romulan name of Star Trek: Picard's villain Commodore Oh (Tamlyn Tomita) has been revealed: She is also known as General Nadar. Oh was the clandestine cause of many horrors inflicted upon the galaxy in the CBS All-Access series starring Patrick Stewart in his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard. But little by little, Star Trek: Picard dropped the shroud of mystery surrounding Oh and the actress who portrays her exclusively told Screen Rant her real Romulan name.
Intriguingly, Oh is a rare Starfleet character who held two very high ranks in opposite, enemy organizations. Introduced in the second episode of Star Trek: Picard season 1, Commander Data (Brent Spiner). Once Soji's homeworld of Coppelius was located, Oh personally led a massive Romulan fleet to wipe out the androids, who were saved by the heroic sacrifice of Picard and a Starfleet armada led by Acting Captain Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes).
In an interview with Screen Rant, Tamlyn Tomita dropped the bombshell that Commodore Oh's real name is General Nadar, and Oh is her false, Starfleet identity. This syncs with the fact that Riker referred to Oh as "General" during their confrontation in Star Trek: Picard's season 1 finale, "Et in Arcadia Ego, Part II" - although the Starfleet Captain never uttered Oh's Romulan name so it isn't clear if Riker actually knows it or not. However, Tomita told us the name General Nadar was part of the conception of the character of Commodore Oh. Tomita states, "I think there were a lot of creative, wonderful juices flowing back and forth between the creators as to who Commodore Oh was, and General Nadar... But yeah, I am a General, my name is Nadar, but that's scripted" (and the name Nadar didn't air in the episode).
Star Trek: Picard added many new wrinkles to Romulan lore by introducing the Zhat Vash and their opposite number, the cadre of Romulan warrior nuns known as the Qowat Milat. In addition, Romulan names now carry an even greater significance thanks to Star Trek: Picard since the Tal Shiar secret agent Narek (Harry Treadaway) and Soji discussed how Romulans have one name for outsiders and another secret name reserved for family and loved ones. Narek confessing his real name - Hrai Yan - to Soji was the Romulan spy's way of declaring he actually loved her, although this didn't stop Narek from trying to kill Soji on Commodore Oh's orders.
With Star Trek: Picard season 2. Still, it's more likely Oh's real name is Nadar and this will be officially stated if she does return to menace the Alpha Quadrant again next season.
