The Star Trek alums like Mary Chieffo to reprise their roles in-game. The popular MMO receives frequent updates that add new storylines, ships, and characters, but the addition of Wil Wheaton is arguably one of the biggest additions to come to the game yet.
The long-running Star Trek series has seen many iterations over the years, with Wil Wheaton being best known for his role of Wesley Crusher in the show Star Trek: The Next Generation. Star Trek Online is an MMO that's designed to allow players to live out their own Star Trek storylines, encouraging exploration of the iconic universe. Players can design their own character and play as a Federation captain, Klingon Warrior, Romulan Warbird, or Jem’Hadar soldier. Star Trek Online also features customizable ships which players can use in massively-multiplayer battles or to explore new worlds. The game's latest storyline involves the Star Trek Mirror Universe, where Mirror versions of well-known characters have taken on different roles.
A new press release has announced the latest update for the game, Star Trek Online: Ascension, which will feature Wil Wheaton reprising his role as Wesley Crusher. Wheaton's character can be seen in a new trailer for the update from the Star Trek Online YouTube channel. The plot of the new STO episode, entitled "Eye of the Storm," centers on the Mirror Universe's struggles to stop the Terran Emperor from gaining control of The Other, an entity of great power, with the Emperor revealed to be an evil Mirror version of Crusher. The Ascension update will also add a "new 5-player ground TFO" which is called "Storm Chasers" and an Elite Officer Upgrade System. The update is set to release for PC on September 13 and will arrive on consoles at a later date.
