As Captain Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) will presumably be one of Star Trek: Legacy's lead characters, the proposed spinoff show has a perfect opportunity to update the story of Star Trek: Voyager. Terry Matalas' proposed Star Trek spinoff will continue the story of Starfleet in the 25th century, revisiting key figures from earlier Star Trek shows. Matalas has already brought back Captain Tuvok (Tim Russ) in Star Trek: Picard season 3, and could do much more with the cast of Voyager should his proposed series be commissioned.

Star Trek: Prodigy is currently extending the story of the crew of the USS Voyager in the 24th century, as Vice iral Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) leads a rescue mission to save Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran). As Star Trek: Legacy will take place 19 years later, it can build on many of these developments. Here are ten stories from both Prodigy and Star Trek: Voyager that Terry Matalas' proposed spinoff can continue.

10 Star Trek: Legacy Can Finally Promote Ensign Harry Kim

Captain Harry Kim and iral Janeway in the Star Trek: Voyager finale

One of the cut scenes from Star Trek: Picard season 3 would have revealed that Harry Kim (Garrett Wang) had finally become a Starfleet Captain. With the scene excised from the final script, Matalas could revisit the idea of Captain Harry Kim in Star Trek: Legacy. As Terry Matalas' proposed Picard follow-up will focus on Starfleet in the 25th century, it's only natural that other starships and officers will come into with the Enterprise-G. Some of these officers will presumably be friendly faces from Star Trek history, and Harry Kim could be one of them, in command of the USS Rhode Island from Star Trek: Voyager's finale.

9 Has Star Trek's Federation Expanded To The Delta Quadrant?

USS Protostar flight

Star Trek: Prodigy has established that Starfleet began experimenting with advanced alternatives to warp drive, which would allow them to explore the Delta Quadrant in the late 24th century. The proto-drive installed in Chakotay's new ship, the USS Protostar allowed Starfleet to achieve much faster travel than ever before. Star Trek: Legacy can reveal whether this technology was rolled out across future starships, leading to the Federation spreading its message across the Delta Quadrant. Proto-warp travel would allow Captain Seven to be reunited with the Federation's ambassador to the Delta Quadrant, Neelix (Ethan Phillips).

8 How Did Star Trek: Picard's Synth Ban Affect Voyager's Doctor?

Robert Picardo as Doctor in Star Trek Voyager and Santiago Cabrera as Rios in Star Trek Picard

One of the most seismic events in Star Trek: Picard was the Attack on Mars and the subsequent ban on synthetics. The fact that Cristóbal Rios (Santiago Cabrera) had a crew of his own holographic aspects suggests that holo-technology was unaffected by the ban. However, the Rios holograms didn't appear to have the same level of agency and sentience as the USS Voyager's EMH, The Doctor (Robert Picardo). The Doctor's fight for his rights to be recognized as an individual was one of Star Trek: Voyager's best storylines, so he surely would have been a vocal opponent to the sweeping restrictions introduced following the First Day attack, perhaps even becoming a political activist.

7 Tom And B'Elanna's Daughter Should Be In Star Trek: Legacy

Should it get the green light, Star Trek: Legacy will likely feature Ensign Sidney La Forge (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut) and Ensign Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers) aboard the USS Enteprise-G. Showrunner Terry Matalas has also promised that Alexander, son of Worf will be part of Legacy's 90s Trek continuation. Miral Paris (Lisa LaCicero), the daughter of Lt. Tom Paris (Robert Duncan Macneill) and Lt. B'Elanna Torres (Roxann Dawson) would be another obvious addition to the next generation. The Star Trek: Voyager finale depicted an alternative future where Miral had followed her parents into Starfleet as an Ensign. As Star Trek: Picard season 3 mirrored TNG's finale, it would make sense for Legacy to similarly borrow plot points from "Endgame".

6 Does Star Trek's New Enterprise Have A Proto-Drive?

Captain Seven of Nine and the USS Enterprise-G from Star Trek: Picard.

The USS Titan-A didn't have a proto-drive in Star Trek: Picard season 3, but there was a whole year between the events of Frontier Day and the Titan being re-named the USS Enterprise-G. As the new flagship of the Federation, it's possible that Seven of Nine's Enterprise will be fitted with the most advanced form of travel. This could mean that the Enterprise-G is equipped with either a Quantum Slipstream drive or a Proto-Drive, allowing the Enterprise to explore all four corners of the Star Trek galaxy, spreading the Federation's message of peace and diplomacy.

5 Are Voyager's Hirogen Hunting In The Alpha Quadrant Now?

Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard facing a Hirogen

Star Trek: Picard revealed that Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and Lt. Cmdr. Worf (Michael Dorn) had previously encountered a Hirogen. Picard's published of the event only focused on the diplomatic implications, suggesting that the Hirogen's hunt for Picard became a Federation issue. Star Trek: Legacy could reveal what the diplomatic negotiations between the Federation and the Hirogen led to, with the Federation and the Hirogen designating sectors of the Alpha Quadrant exclusively as Hirogen hunting grounds. The predatory Hirogens encroaching into Klingon territory could be a fantastic story for Star Trek: Legacy to tell.

4 Q's Son Can Face Off Against Jack Crusher

John de Lancie as Q in Star Trek: Picard season 3

Star Trek: Picard season 3's mid-credits tease heavily implied that Q will play a key role in Jack Crusher's Star Trek: Legacy story. As the son of Q's favorite Starfleet captain, it would be no surprise if Jack Crusher met Q's own son in a future episode of Legacy. In Star Trek: Voyager, Q Junior (Keegan de Lancie) was conceived as a means to end the Q Continuum's civil war, but initially proved too spoiled and disruptive to continue existing within it. Thanks to the stern Starfleet education of his godmother, Captain Janeway, the more disciplined Q Junior was eventually reitted to the Collective, primed for a future Star Trek appearance.

3 Star Trek: Legacy Can Bring Back Reg Barclay

Dwight Schultz as the older Reg Barclay in Star Trek: Voyager

Lt. Reginald Barclay (Dwight Schultz) was one of the few Star Trek: The Next Generation characters who didn't return for Star Trek: Picard season 3. However, Barclay had more appearances in Star Trek: Voyager than TNG, so could easily cross paths with Captain Seven. Reg pioneered the communications technology that allowed the USS Voyager to reestablish with Starfleet in the years before their return home. He was also a former colleague of the EMH's creator Dr. Lewis Zimmerman (Robert Picardo), so Barclay's history with both holo-technology and communication with the Delta Quadrant would make him a valuable asset in Star Trek's 25th century.

2 What Starship Or Starfleet Department Does Captain Tuvok Command?

Captain Tuvok Changeling

Tuvok was one of the many characters that Star Trek: Picard season 3 promoted, and the USS Voyager's Vulcan Head of Security is now a Captain. It's possible that Captain Tuvok is now in command of Starfleet Intelligence, given his extensive security experience. As someone who was once undercover within the Maquis, it would make sense for Tuvok to enlist Commander Ro Laren (Michelle Forbes) following her post-Maquis rehabilitation. Terry Matalas revealed there was to be a scene of the real Tuvok and a rescued Ro Laren held prisoner by the Changelings, suggesting that, in Matalas' head at least, there's a link between the two security officers.

1 Could Species 8472 Be Star Trek: Legacy's Big Bad?

A portrait of Species 8472 from Star Trek: Voyager

Species 8472 were introduced in Star Trek: Voyager season 3 as a species that even the Borg Collective were afraid of. After encountering the USS Voyager, Species 8472 believed that Starfleet and the Federation were the true threats to their realm within fluidic space. Janeway and Chakotay convinced them that Starfleet weren't a threat, and a ceasefire between the USS Voyager and Species 8472 was established. 20 years later, and with the Borg Collective destroyed, it will be interesting to see if the unique Star Trek aliens have changed their mind about the Federation.

In Star Trek's post-Borg future, Species 8472 could become a huge threat to the Federation, especially if Starfleet were to make a similar mistake to the Borg Collective. As Starfleet continues to explore alternatives to warp travel like proto-drives and quantum slipstreams, a Federation scientist could find themselves exploring fluidic space for other solutions. An encroachment into their territory, and the final end of the Borg could reaffirm Species 8472's assessment from Star Trek: Voyager. Believing that the Federation truly are their most dangerous opponents, Species 8472 could begin re-evaluating the most efficient way to eradicate this threat once and for all, leading to an epic battle for survival in Star Trek: Legacy.
