Empress Victoria Is Ready To Make Her Mark On The Marvel Universe

closing from Guardians of the Galaxy #7, Star-Lord's sister Empress Victoria hunts the Guardians of the Galaxy

Empress Victoria is a relatively new addition to the Marvel Universe, having debuted in 2014's Legendary Star-Lord #1. The two share a father in King J'Son, from the planet Spartax; like her brother, Victoria was raised off-world, away from her father. When she finally returned home, J'Son sent her to Spartax's military school, the Star Harbor, paving the way for her to become Captain Victoria, Commander of the Spartax Royal Guard. In due time, she became Empress Victoria, leader of Spartax. The character's return at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy #7 could prove her opportunity to forge a greater role for herself in the Marvel Universe.

Victoria has only had a handful of interactions with her half-brother. The most notable is during the Legendary Star-Lord series, where Victoria actually saves Peter Quill's life. Granted, the series began with her attempting to cash in on a bounty on his head, in hopes of using the money to rebuild the Spartax Empire. She quickly has a change of heart, but the two have a complicated relationship, to say the least. They don't necessarily have an estranged relationship, nor do they dislike each other, but it's more like the two siblings just live very different lives. The latest developments with Groot are a testament to that.

Victoria Is Determined To GuardThe Galaxy Herself

Guardians of the Galaxy spinoff Legendary Star-Lord #2, Empress Victoria saves Star-Lord leader of Guardians of the Galaxy

It's clear in her brief appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy #7 that her desire to hunt down her "criminal brother and his band of murderers" isn't driven by any sort of vendetta or malicious intent. It's because of the apparent damage that Groot has done to the galaxy. Her desire comes from her efforts to use her political power to protect and guard the galaxy. Even as Hulkling assures her that not all is as it appears to be, Victoria acts on what she can see, and what she thinks she sees is people dying at Groot's hands. Without listening to reason, Empress Victoria will not rest until the Guardians of the Galaxy are brought to justice, or she understands the truth.

Guardians of the Galaxy #7 is available now from Marvel Comics.
