This is something In-ho was struggling with years before the events of Squid Game season 1, when he was a police officer who entered the games to pay off his own debts. In-ho participated in the 28th Squid Games as Player 132, which were held in 2015. In-ho was the sole winner of the games, but instead of living a luxurious life with his winnings, he chose to return as an overseer and eventually became The Front Man. In-ho Lets Gi-hun Live At The End Of Squid Game Season 2

After the death of Il-nam in Squid Game season 1, In-ho is in a more powerful position than ever. While there are likely some unknown figures and investors who could overrule him, In-ho has control over all the Masked Men. Therefore, he has the power to play the games himself and knows he will remain safe while he works to sabotage Gi-hun's plan. While In-ho remains by Gi-hun's side throughout most of Squid Game season 2, he puts his mask back on at the very end of the season.

At the end of season 2, In-ho kills one of Gi-hun's closest friends, Jung-bae, right in front of him. Gi-hun also believes that Young-il, In-ho's alias, is dead. Therefore, In-ho will most likely let Gi-hun live with his failure and make him play more games at his most hopeless point in Squid Game season 3.
