At the beginning of Spy X Family, Donovan was portrayed as a secretive man who was rarely seen in public other than at school functions. From Loid's first interaction with him, though, it became abundantly clear that Donovan is a neglectful father, to Damian at least. He never praises Damian's accomplishments and often completely ignores him in favor of his eldest son, Demetrius, leading Damian to develop a bitter, resentful personality and lash out as a bully at school. With these recent revelations in mind though, many fans are beginning to realize that disregarding Damian is not the only way Donovan harmed his family.
Spy x Family Hints at the Depressing Reality of One Fan Favorite Character
Damian Desmond is an increasingly sympathetic child living in perhaps the most complicated, fraught, depressing household in Spy x Family.
A few Spy X Family fans, @rosefortwilight and @Rou_uoR, have pointed out irrefutable evidence that Donovan's behavior over the years has caused the entire Desmond family to feel tense and distant from each other, not just Damian. Damian's issues with Donovan have been evident since early on in the story, because he works tirelessly to impress his father, only to receive no attention or praise. Damian's understandable resentment has been simmering for years, but based on these fan theories, it appears Melinda and Demetrius share these negative feelings towards Donovan, loathing him for the way he has singlehandedly torn the family apart.

Melinda Believes Her Husband Was Replaced by an Alien, While Demetrius Tries Not To Have Thoughts at All
Melinda's conversation with Loid in chapter #110 was very telling, as she informed the spy of Donovan's true mind-reading power. During the discussion, she was very perturbed, explaining to Loid that Donovan had changed so drastically for the worse that she even suspected he may have been replaced by an alien. This claim may seem outlandish, but speaks to just how significantly Donovan's behavior has transformed. Melinda even hesitates to call Donovan her husband, because she feels the man he is today is not at all comparable to the man she married years ago, and it is as if he had been replaced by a villain.
Melinda also itted that before Damian's birth, when it was just her, Donovan, and Demetrius, Donovan was kinder and more loving, but his behavior completely shifted after the birth of their youngest son. This is a heartbreaking burden for Damian to have to bear, and his father's lack of affection towards him affects the entire family as well. In another manga , Demetrius is pictured trying desperately to completely clear his mind and not have any thoughts at all. He does this for fear that his father will read his mind and find fault with his thoughts.

The entire Desmond family live in fear of Donovan, and Melinda and Demetrius mourn the man he used to be years ago. One saddening pictures the Desmond family having dinner together, and it is clearly a nerve-wracking experience for everyone but Donovan. Melinda, Damian, and Demetrius look forward with terrified expressions, puzzled by their father who now feels like a stranger to them. Donovan stares them all down skeptically, as if he is actively reading their thoughts. It is a tragic scene that properly conveys the broken state of the Desmond family, caused by Donovan's drastic change.

Spy x Family's revelation about Donovan Desmond's secret powers completely changes his relationship with Damian tragically.
Now that it has been confirmed that Donovan Desmond reads minds, Loid should be fearful, because Donovan definitely knows his plans for Operation Strix and his schemes to manipulate him. Loid is not the only one who will be affected by Donovan's increasingly confusing and disturbing behavior, though, the true victims in this situation are his own family. The uncharacteristic way he behaves affects everyone in his family differently, but it is undeniable that Donovan is the one keeping Spy X Family's Desmond family from being truly close and happy like they used to be.
