Spider-Man 4 even worse and more complicated. The Marvel Cinematic Universe began the exploration of its multiverse during its Phase 4, and one of its biggest multiverse adventures so far has been Spider-Man: No Way Home, which brought variants of the web-slinger and saw a potentially dangerous multiversal chaos.

After the revelation of his identity at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, No Way Home saw Peter asking Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to cast a spell that would make everyone forget he’s Peter Parker, but the spell was botched and opened the gates to the multiverse. This allowed the villains from past Spider-Man movies to cross over into the MCU as well as Peter’s variants played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, and in order to stop more enemies from entering this timeline, Strange cast a spell that made everyone forget Peter Parker. The extent of the spell wasn’t shown until the post-credits scene of the extended cut of No Way Home, which makes Peter’s future in Spider-Man 4 even worse than it already was.

The Spider-Man No Way Home Ending sees Peter, Ned and MJ say goodbye

At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter was shown visiting the coffee shop where MJ (Zendaya) works in hopes that he could make her and Ned (Jacob Batalon) him, but he ultimately couldn’t bring himself to do it, and he was last seen moving to a small apartment and making a new Spider-Man costume, symbolizing a new beginning for him. No Way Home left many questions about the extent of Strange’s spell, raising questions about the possibility of Peter making MJ and Ned somewhat easily, but the post-credits scene in the No Way Home extended cut showed how difficult this is going to be.

The scene is a video from Midtown School about cafeteria safety followed by Betty’s Corner With Betty Brant, in which Betty (Angourie Rice) recaps their high school years, and there’s a photo from their trip to Europe where Peter appears in the middle but his face is covered by a pigeon, and in another video, he appeared with his back turned to the camera. This is proof that all evidence of Peter’s existence has been altered, so it would be more difficult for him to make people him as he has no actual proof of their time together, and even photos like the one in Europe wouldn’t serve much as no one re him being there and the person behind the pigeon could be anyone else. It’s possible that the spell has some errors here and there that could give Peter an effective way to make everyone him, but for now, his future in Spider-Man 4 is looking quite dark.

Why Spider-Man 4 Shouldn't Undo Doctor Strange's Memory Spell

Doctor Strange performs mind wipe spell in no way home

No Way Home’s ending was quite heartbreaking as Peter not only lost Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) but now doesn’t have his girlfriend, best friend, and his superhero colleagues either (though these still know Spider-Man, but not Peter), but Spider-Man 4 shouldn’t undo Doctor Strange’s memory spell. The silver lining of Peter’s current situation is that he can now be a real street-level hero, which is an important part of Spider-Man’s story that the MCU has left behind, and it can make way for the introduction of other notable characters in Spidey’s history, such as Gwen Stacy. The MCU shouldn’t rush the undoing of Strange’s memory spell and explore what Spider-Man can do now that he’s starting all over again, and if the spell is to be undone at some point, it definitely shouldn’t be as early as in Spider-Man 4.
