Now that a new Spider-Man: No Way Home, the third solo adventure of the web-slinger and which will change the future of the MCU.

After his identity was revealed by Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home (and was also framed for his murder), Peter Parker (Tom Holland) will deal with the consequences of having his biggest secret exposed in Spider-Man: No Way Home. In an effort to keep his loved ones safe, Peter will ask Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for help, and he will agree to cast a spell that will make everyone forget Peter is Spider-Man. Unfortunately, the spell won’t go as planned and they will open the gates to the multiverse, allowing villains from past Spider-Man movies to cross over to the MCU.

The villains confirmed to appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home are Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), Electro (Jamie Foxx), Lizard (Rhys Ifans), Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), and Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), with previous versions of Spider-Man – those of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield – rumored to appear as well. Another character fans are hoping to see is Eddie Brock/Venom (Tom Hardy), mostly after the post-credits scene in Venom: Let There Be Carnage confirmed Venom exists in the MCU’s multiverse. However, with a new trilogy reportedly planned, Spider-Man 4 can be the one that pays off the post-credits scene of Venom 2.

Spider-Man’s MCU Future & New Trilogy Reports Explained

Sony and Marvel Studios began negotiating the rights to Spider-Man in 2014, following Spider-Man: Far From Home.

When it was time to reach a new agreement, Marvel and Sony couldn’t do so and it all fell apart in August 2019, meaning that Holland’s time in the MCU was over. After many rumors and reports on what both sides were disagreeing on, Sony insiders later reported that the new trilogy is not “official” yet, but it wouldn’t be surprising anymore if both studios are in talks to develop a new trilogy.

Venom 2’s Post-Credits Bring The Symbiote To The MCU

Kevin Feige said in 2019 that Spider-Man is “the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes”, meaning that Holland’s Peter Parker is free of showing up in the now-renamed Sony’s Spider-Man Universe if the studio decides so. Now, with Spider-Man: No Way Home being all about the multiverse and villains from other Spider-Man movies crossing over, characters from Sony’s universe are also now expected to show up in the MCU at some point, and a new trilogy gives more hope for such encounters. Sony has already taken a step in that direction with the post-credits scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which confirmed that both Venom movies are part of the multiverse. In it, while Venom casually tells Eddie about the symbiote’s knowledge of other universes, they are both suddenly transported to another room that is soon revealed to be another universe – the MCU, as the TV shows J. Jonah Jameson’s (J.K. Simmons) reveal of Spider-Man being Peter Parker, with Venom saying “that guy” while licking the TV as it shows a photo of Peter.

Venom 2’s post-credits scene not only brought the symbiote and Eddie to the MCU but it also confirmed that Venom and the rest of the characters in Sony’s universe don’t live in the MCU but are definitely part of the multiverse, allowing them to crossover – the questions is, of course, how, as Venom was as shocked as Eddie when they were transported to the MCU. Of course, what happens after that is still unknown, so instead of going back to their side of the multiverse, Eddie and Venom could stay in the MCU, making way for their encounter with Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

MCU Theory: Tom Hardy’s Venom Will Appear In Spider-Man 4

With Eddie and Venom now in the MCU and the possibility of a new Spider-Man trilogy, the next step is for these characters to meet, and it could happen in Spider-Man 4. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, further expanding on the many mysteries of the Marvel and Sony multiverse.

What Venom In Spider-Man 4 Means For The MCU & Sony’s Universe

Venom Spider-Man No Way Home

Venom’s appearance in Spider-Man 4 could help explain how the multiverse works and how different characters can travel through it, as Venom didn’t really do anything to be transported to the MCU. Depending on that, characters like Morbius and Kraven the Hunter could potentially show up in future MCU movies as well, but all this also means that Holland’s debut in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe might finally be on the way. Venom appearing in Spider-Man 4 is the first big step that Sony and the MCU need to finally bring together these sides of the multiverse, which could, in turn, make way for some highly-anticipated team-ups, as is that of the Sinister Six. Spider-Man: No Way Home is bringing five villains that can form the Sinister Six, and the missing link could be Venom, and by appearing in Spider-Man 4, he could be preparing to the team.

Of course, it’s important to that a new MCU Spider-Man trilogy isn’t official yet, no matter what Amy Pascal shared (and as exciting as it sounds), but it all points at those plans being discussed between the studios, so it’s only a matter of waiting for it to be confirmed – but what’s true is that a new batch of Spider-Man movies opens up various possibilities for not only the web-slinger but other characters as well, and not just from the MCU.
