Production on lesser-known variants of Spider-Man that appeared in the movie got pushed into the spotlight. Alongside characters like Peni Parker and Peter Porker, the more obscure Spider-Man variant of Spider-Man Noir made his debut.

Thanks to Nicolas Cage’s charismatic voice acting as Spider-Man Noir, the 1930s variant of the web-slinging hero gained enough fans to warrant a solo project. Cage has returned to portray the character, this time in a live-action series. He will still be the down-on-his-luck private investigator who fights crime in 1930s New York, but the series is sure to show a different side to Spider-Man Noir that couldn’t be conveyed in the Spider-Verse films. Filming is set to wrap up in February 2025, and we’re finally getting a good tease of what’s to come thanks to several set photo reveals.

Spider-Man Noir's Set Photos Are Fascinating Teases Of Nicolas Cage's Live-Action Show

Spider-Man Noir’s Full Costume Has Been Revealed

The Spider-Noir set photos that we’ve gotten so far show Cage’s titular character in various states. In one set video, Spider-Man Noir looks to be chasing after some bad guys while standing on top of a car. He is dressed in a comic-accurate noir look, fit with his iconic fedora and trench coat, of course, completely in black. In some other set photos, Cage’s character is out of his Spider-Man costume and dressed for some private investigator work. He wears a suit and tie, a softer trench coat, and his trademark fedora once again.

In the most recent set update, Cage can be seen looking serious as his character seems to be contemplating something. He could possibly be investigating something in the field, as he’s dressed in his work suit once again. In all of these set photos, Cage seems to be acting on his own as none of his co-stars have been spotted yet. The series is also set to star Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, and Li Jun Li.

Spider-Man Noir Looks Set To Be Unlike Any Other Spider-Man Show Or Movie

The Show Should Have A More Serious Tone

There have been many iterations of Spider-Man over the course of multiple projects. From Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy to the MCU’s official take on the character, the projects featuring a young Peter Parker have always felt somewhat grounded with an edge of youthful charm. Spider-Noir won’t be the first project to focus on a non-Peter Parker Spider-Man, but it will certainly be the first to play a more serious vibe.

The defining trait of Spider-Man Noir is the fact that he’s based in New York overtaken by the Great Depression, and I’m so glad that the series seems to be leaning into that dark tone with how serious Cage has looked in the few scenes we’ve gotten teased. Though Spider-Man Noir’s broodiness was some great comic relief in Into the Spider-Verse, his character is ultimately a serious one when put in the context of his own world. Spider-Man projects typically tend to lean on the more lighthearted side, so I’m intrigued to see how Spider-Noir pulls this off.

I Can't Wait To See What Nicolas Cage's Spider-Man Noir Show Is Actually Like

It Will Be The Last Of The SSU

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe officially came to an end with the recent release of Kraven the Hunter, though Spider-Noir will technically be the last entry into the franchise. Now that the series isn’t under pressure to set up any future SSU plot points, I’m truly excited to see how they can push the boundaries. Cage has obviously proven himself as an actor, and the fact that the series will be his first starring television role surely means that he saw a story worth telling.

Judging from the set photos, I can’t wait to see a version of Spider-Man in a period setting. Besides the looks of Cage on set, the rest of the series has been kept well under wraps. The main plot of the show and the villains that Cage’s character will be fighting still haven’t been confirmed, but I’m sure that more details will start to come out once production is fully wrapped up. Sony has the chance to end off the SSU with one last piece of quality work, and from how much potential the character has, I’m hoping Spider-Noir delivers.
