At the time of writing, there have been eight Into The Spider-Verse - a film that saw multiple versions of everybody's favorite hero going up against the formidable Wilson Fisk.

Every movie has had a final fight, with some better than others. We'll now take a look at all of them and rank them from worst to best.

Spider-Man vs Lizard (The Amazing Spider-Man)

Spider-Man battles Lizard in The Amazing SPider-Man

Sony decided to give fans an unseen villain for 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man, with Dr. Curt Connors AKA the Lizard acting as the antagonist in that movie. His plan is pretty ridiculous - put simply, he wants to turn everybody in New York City into giant reptiles - and though the final fight hits an emotional note when Captain Stacy dies it still comes in the bottom of this list.

That's mostly because Peter was destined to triumph. There didn't seem any genuine risk of the plan failing and Spider-Man having to battle against an array of reptiles in the sequel. There's a moment where crane operators team up to help our hero but that's more cringe-worthy than dramatic. The movie didn't set the world alight - and neither did the final battle.

Spider-Man vs Doctor Octopus (Spider-Man 2)

Even in this day and age where there are superhero movies galore currently out there, Spider-Man 2 still ranks among the best. Alfred Molina deservedly won plaudits for his performance as Otto Octavius, who turns evil when his metallic arms start to addle his mind. But while the blockbuster is terrific from start to finish, the ending is somewhat divisive.

Every Spider-Man movie usually sees Peter come up with a solution but, in this movie, it's actually Octavius himself. This is a nice twist but it does little for the development of the webhead. It also involved him saving Mary Jane Watson again - something we'd seen him do two years previously. So, for that reason, it ranks low on our list.

Spider-Man vs Green Goblin (Spider-Man)

Green Goblin's Death

It was always somewhat inevitable that Peter Parker would defeat Willem Dafoe's Spider-Man. After all, as the first movie in a trilogy, they weren't exactly going to kill off the main character. For that reason, the fight between the two characters was predictable and destined to only end one way.

However, we have to give credit to the twist regarding Norman's death. Impaling himself on his own glider was something we didn't see coming and Peter's use of his spider-sense in this moment is enjoyable for fans to see. It's also epic seeing Norman trying to force Spider-Man into saving either Mary Jane or a pod full of schoolchildren, giving our hero a genuine moral dilemma. Fortunately, the webslinger is able to save both - and the day in the process.

Spider-Man vs Vulture (Spider-Man: Homecoming)

Speaking of twists, there's another good one in 2017's Tony Stark's advanced and dangerous technology. And when he discovers that villain Adrian Toomes is actually the father of prom date Liz, it's a reveal that leaves fans reeling.

The final fight itself isn't anything overly spectacular, but we love how it's a coming of age moment for Peter. It's when he shows he can handle himself against formidable foes on the battlefield and also the moment where we see him prove his doubters wrong. Again, there seemed little risk of him losing, but we like just how sweet the victory feels and what it signifies in the MCU going forward.

Spider-Man vs Mysterio

Narrowly missing out on a place on our podium is Spider-Man's battle against Mysterio in 2019's Nick Fury, and Maria Hill but it's all a ruse, with the trickster instead eager to acquire Tony Stark's old glasses because of the power they possess.

Spidey really has his work cut out on this one, with Mysterio's many illusions posing a problem. He seems very much a criminal in control and the special effects are absolutely jaw-dropping. It's truly brilliant to see Peter eventually find a way to get the better of his adversary and, with Stark's death in Avengers: Endgame still raw, it's also poignant when he eventually reigns supreme. You feel as though Peter evolves right in front of our very eyes and we can't wait to see what happens with Tom Holland's version of the webhead further down the line.

Spider-Man vs Kingpin

Another coming of age moment for the character of Spider-Man comes in Into The Spider-Verse. This time, it's Miles Morales as the main version of the webhead - rather than Peter Parker. He spends the majority of the movie struggling to make sufficient use of his powers but, near the end, everything falls into place. And the result is rather spectacular.

Seeing Miles face off against Wilson Fisk is electrifying, especially because of Sony's excellent animation. What makes it extra spectacular is that Miles isn't alone, with other versions of the webslinger ing the battle. It hits our heartstrings because of the presence of Miles' father, who cheers Spidey on despite not knowing the identity of the person under the mask, and is well-deserving of the bronze medal.

Spider-Man And Harry Osborn Vs Venom And Sandman

Harry death in Spider Man 3

It looks as if the end is nigh for Tobey Maguire's Peter when he has to go up against dynamic duo Venom and Sandman at the end of Spider-Man 3. The villains have Mary Jane captive (surprise surprise) and threaten to take control of New York unless Spidey engages them in battle. He seems on his own until Harry Osborn dramatically enters the fray, in a scene that still gives us goosebumps to this day.

This battle has everything including two deaths, with both Harry and Venom meeting their end. The only negative is that Sandman...just gives up halfway through - for reasons that should have stopped him fighting in the first place. We find Peter just suddenly forgiving Uncle Ben's killer unrealistic, too, given how angry he is throughout most of the blockbuster. Regardless, it's still riveting to see the action unfold.

Spider-Man Vs Electro And Green Goblin

Gwen-Stacy dies in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 remains an incredibly divisive movie. It certainly didn't make sufficient use of the villains involved, while perhaps spending too much time focusing on the romantic dynamic between Peter and Gwen Stacy. But it's final fight is unparalleled in our opinion.

Firstly, Peter defeats Electro and everybody looks set to go home happy. But then a mutated Harry Osborn enters the battlefield as the Green Goblin, oozing menace and danger in the process. Our hearts break when Gwen dies but her ing is majestically handled, with Hans Zimmer's background track making everybody reach for the tissues. It's one of the only times a fight has a truly sad ending in a Spider-Man movie and that's refreshing to see. A worthy gold medallist.
