A Space Jam: A New Legacy fan-made poster casts current NBA stars as the sequel's Monstars. In the original Space Jam, a group of diminutive aliens stole the talents of some of the NBA's top players, transforming themselves into the super-powered Monstars. Their hope was that would give them an advantage over the Tune Squad in the climatic basketball game, but Michael Jordan was able to lead Bugs Bunny and company to victory.
A New Legacy plot details are being kept under wraps for the time being, but the movie is expected to follow a similar trajectory to its predecessor - this time with LeBron James taking center stage with the Looney Tunes. That means the Tune Squad should be going up against a new group of Monstars, and fans are curious to see which modern-day NBA players will fill those roles. Now, some fan art drafts a fantasy roster for the Tunes to face.
On Instagram, artist ApexForm shared a fan-made Space Jam: A New Legacy poster, with NBA stars Joel Embiid, Kristaps Porzingis, James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, and Stephen Curry as the new Monstars. James is dribbling up the court with his cartoon teammates ready in the background. Take a look at the artwork in the space below:
There's no denying this is a formidable starting five for the Monstars, but this poster is simply dream casting and not indicative about what's actually in store for the film. Last summer, Damian Lillard, Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis, Diana Taurasi, and Nneka Ogwumike have "key roles" in the new Space Jam, implying that they'll make up the new Monstars team. However, it's worth keeping in mind that hasn't been officially confirmed yet and it'll likely be some time before viewers learn more information. Space Jam: A New Legacy doesn't premiere until July 2021, so Warner Bros. is in no rush to rev up marketing.
Still, it would be fun if some of these players were featured in Space Jam: A New Legacy - if only for a cameo. Embiid has a reputation for being one of the NBA's most entertaining figures, with a larger-than-life persona made for the big screen. Harden and Leonard are two of the league's best players, and Porzingis would give Space Jam some international flair to appeal to global audiences. It's unknown how many basketball players have parts in the new Space Jam, so hopefully there are some cool surprises in store when the movie finally hits theaters.
