Spider-Man: No Way Home became the most successful movie of the pandemic era, grossing more than $1.1 billion worldwide. The film cemented Sony as the undeniable champion of 2021, a year that saw many releases underperform at the box office.

Sony doesn't show any signs of stopping. Indeed, their 2022 release schedule is packed, and audiences can tell the studio plans to make next year just as or perhaps even more successful than this one. From sequels to established franchises to first entries in new ones, Sony's releases have fans already excited for 2022.

Hotel Transylvania: Transformania - January 2022

sequels fans might not realize are coming out. After three massively successful films, the animated franchise will seemingly end with Transformania, which will center around an invention that turns monsters into humans and vice-versa.

Originally scheduled to premiere on October 1, 2021, Transformania got delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Sony sold the rights to Amazon, and Transformania will debut on Amazon on January 14, 2022. However, Sony will still handle the release in China, where the movie will receive a traditional theatrical release.

Morbius - January 2022

Considering the Spider-Man movies' overwhelming critical and commercial success, it makes sense that Sony would want to expand their corner of the web slinger's universe. Their third film in their up-and-coming Spider-Man Universe, Morbius, will follow the titular character as he becomes a vampire after attempting to cure himself of a rare blood disease.

Jared Leto stars as the fan-favorite comic book character Morbius the Living Vampire, alongside Matt Smith and Jared Harris. Morbius was originally going to come out in July 2020 but got delayed because of the pandemic; however, fans will finally see the film on January 28, 2022.

Uncharted - February 2022

Twitter had some interesting reactions to Tom Holland's take on Nathan Drake. Indeed, ever since the news of his casting came out, fans of the games have been divided over the choice. No doubt, Holland is a talented actor, but he's not necessarily who fans saw as Drake.

Still, Uncharted remains one of Sony's most anticipated films of 2022. Based on the video game franchise, the movie follows Drake and his mentor, Victor Sullivan, as they go on an adventure in search of "the greatest treasure never found." Time will tell if Uncharted is indeed the start of another successful franchise for Sony or if it's one more of the many video game adaptations that crash and burn at the box office.

65 - April 2022

65 is one of Sony's most mysterious releases for the coming year. The plot follows "an astronaut who crash lands on a mysterious planet only to discover he's not alone." Produced by Sam Raimi, the film will star Adam Driver, who comes off a busy 2021 that included The Last Duel.

Originally scheduled for May 2022, 65 will now premiere on April 29, 2022, a month before Raimi's other major 2022 release, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Bullet Train - July 2022

David Leitch's Bullet Train will follow five assassins aboard a Japanese bullet train, who realize their assignments are all interconnected. The movie stars an ensemble including Brad Pitt, Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz, Michael Shannon, Logan Lerman, Bad Bunny, and Sandra Bullock.

Leitch already proved himself a capable action director with Deadpool 2, so Bullet Train promises to be one of 2022's most exciting thrillers. Fans can expect it to arrive on July 15, 2022, in the middle of the summer season.

The Man from Toronto will premiere on August 12, 2022, following a delay of nearly two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Jason Statham was originally in talks to star but left the project due to creative differences, with Harrelson replacing him soon afterward.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a pleasant surprise when it premiered in December 2018. The film was a box-office and critical success, eventually winning the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, so the studio logically green-lit a sequel.

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile - November 2022

Sony has another animated movie in the works for a fall 2022 release. Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile is an adaptation of the eponymous children storyline, about a crocodile living in New York City, who must prove he isn't as dangerous as people think.

The movie, starring Javier Bardem and Constance Wu, will blend live-action and animation, a la Who Framed Roger Rabbit? It will premiere on November 18, 2022, marking the end of what looks like another strong year for Columbia and Sony.
