Sonic X Shadow Generations launched on October 22 and has sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide since its debut weekend. While it has been a few weeks since launch, this is the first time in a while sales data has been released, giving fans of the franchise insight into the success of a nostalgic title.

As reported by NintendoLife, Sonic X Shadow Generations was a smash hit, reaching over 1.5 million copies sold since launch, and receiving nine out of ten stars from their initial review of the title. While the latest addition to the franchise is a remaster of the original 2011 title, Sonic Generations, it came with a plethora of new campaign content that featured none other than Shadow the Hedgehog, rather than just the speedy Sonic fans know and love.

Initially, as revealed by the official Sonic The Hedgehog on X in October, the title sold over one million copies within its first weekend alone, meaning since then a whopping 500,000 more copies have been purchased.

Sonic X Shadow Generations came running out of the gate with overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam, and a raving review by Jason Hon from ScreenRant as well. The addition to the franchise might be a remake of the 2011 Sonic Generations title, but the addition of Shadow has wowed fans across the globe. Being able to play as Shadow and run through iconic stages from Shadow's past keeps things fresh and exciting, all while staying true to the original.

The original Sonic Generations was overhauled and remastered as well, giving it polished visuals and even some bonus content for fans to enjoy.

Our Take: Sonic Titles Are Nostalgic And Iconic

Games Featuring Sonic Will Always Hold A Special Place In Fans' Hearts

Comic book art: Sonic 69 cover with Sonic, Tails and Amy Rose on Extreme Gear

Sonic will always have a special place in my heart, as with most fans of the franchise, as it has been around since 1991. The platformer brought a whole new element of chaos, with Sonic being one of the fastest characters players had ever seen, on top of the colorful backgrounds and features the title offered. Having first launched on the Sega Genisis, longtime fans will never forget the sound of the title booting up for the first time, and the overwhelming feeling of nostalgia that sound can still bring.

While it has been years since I dove headfirst into a Sonic title, Sonic X Shadow Generations definitely brings me back to the good old days, as the game stayed true to the original platformer that I grew up playing, all while bringing back one of my absolute favorite characters, Shadow. Hopefully, the next addition to the franchise is just as spectacular, as Sonic Frontiers was a bit of a flop for fans.
