Snow White Closes The Gap Between Itself And A Working Man, But Still Falls To No. 2
This article was originally written Saturday AM and has been updated Sunday AM with up-to-date box office projections (in bold), a full chart, and further analysis.
A Working Man release comes during the sophomore weekend of Snow White, Disney's live-action remake starring Rachel Zegler in the title role opposite Gal Gadot. Although it opened at No. 1, its $42.2 million debut fell below projections as controversy has swirled around the movie because of its depiction of dwarfism, the stars' opposing views on Israel and Palestine, and more.
Per Deadline, as of Sunday morning, Snow White is projected to earn a 3-day gross of $14.2 million at the domestic box office during its sophomore weekend. This sees it dropping a severe 66%, falling further than the 2019 Disney live-action disappointment Dumbo (-60%) and most likely relinquishing its No. 1 position on the Top 5 chart for the weekend to A Working Man. Although its lead is narrow, the Jason Statham action movie's projections show it earning $15.2 million for a decisive victory. Below, see the full Top 5 domestic chart for the weekend:

There are three other new releases debuting in the Top 5 this weekend. The first two Last Supper episodes of the faith-based television series The Chosen - which are being distributed by Fathom Events in the lead-up to Easter - have debuted at No. 3 with a whopping $11.5 million, marking the best debut for the series yet, which previously hit a high of $8.8 million for The Chosen Season 3: Episodes 1 & 2 in 2022.
Meanwhile, the new Blumhouse horror movie The Woman in the Yard has overtaken A24's horror-comedy Death of a Unicorn, with the former debuting at No. 4 with $9.4 million and the latter debuting at No. 5 with $5.8 million. Altogether, with four incoming titles ing the roster, this marks the most new releases that have debuted in the Top 5 simultaneously in 2025 so far.
The Woman in the Yard re-teams Carry-On director Jaume Collet-Serra with star Danielle Deadwyler.
Because of this unprecedented influx of new 2025 releases, while Snow White has merely been pushed down, every other movie that was in the Top 5 the previous weekend has been ousted from the chart entirely. The weekend's previous No. 2 title, the Steven Soderbergh spy thriller Black Bag, has fallen to No. 8 with a 3-day total of $2.15 million at a not-terrible week-on-week drop of 50% in its third weekend. The previous weekend's third-place movie, Marvel's Captain America: Brave New World, has held on tighter, landing at No. 7 in week 7 with $2.8 million, dropping just 30%.
Rounding out the chart is the former No. 4, the Jack Quaid action-comedy Novocaine, at No. 10 in week 3 with $1.45 million at a 61% drop, and the former No. 5, the Robert Pattinson sci-fi movie Mickey 17, at No. 9 in week 4 with $1.92 million at a 48% drop. While the former No. 2 through No. 5 have remained in the Top 10, they have all been outsold by the re-release of Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke, which debuted at No. 6 with $4 million.
What This Means For A Working Man
It Is On Track To Be A Solid Success
Even though the Snow White box office is somewhat compromised by multiple factors, including its 41% Rotten Tomatoes score, the fact that A Working Man debut is outdoing a Disney movie is still a remarkable achievement. However, the movie, which is based on the 2014 Chuck Dixon novel Levon's Trade and follows a construction worker who uses his skills as a former Royal Marine Commando to try and save his boss' kidnapped daughter, still has a way to climb. Its reported $40 million budget means that it will likely have to gross $100 million worldwide in order to break even.
Audiences disagree with critics on Snow White, giving it 74% on the Rotten Tomatoes Popcornmeter.
Precedent shows that the movie should be on track to turn a profit. The Beekeeper opened at about the same level with a $16.6 million debut, and by the end of its theatrical run it had legged out to a global total of $162.6 million. If the new movie hits that same trajectory, it could earn $134.2 million. Additionally, while A Working Man reviews have also been mixed to negative like Snow White's, earning it a 53% score on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences are giving it a glowing 90% Popcornmeter score, so it could become a word-of-mouth success.
Our Take On The Weekend Box Office
The Domestic Box Office Is Slowly Recovering
While neither A Working Man nor Snow White is propping up the box office with their weekend totals, the fact that three other major releases - Death of a Unicorn, The Chosen - Last Supper, and The Woman in the Yard - are contributing solid grosses have resulted in the overall domestic weekend hitting a total of $79 million total, which is a week-on-week increase of 5% that sees the box office continuing to recover after hitting a 2025 low over the weekend of March 14. The A Minecraft Movie, which debuts on April 4, should continue this upward momentum.
