It sounds like Blizzard is very open to Nintendo licensing surprises like Fatal Fury's Terry Bogard to longtime fan-favorites like Banjo-Kazooie revealed for Smash Ultimate. There's really no telling who will the fray next.

Of course, attention is now being placed on the DLC fighters that will be added to Smash Ultimate after Terry in November. There's currently one more mystery character in the ongoing Fighters , but Nintendo recently confirmed that even more combatants will be added after that. One of the characters that has gotten a lot of attention is Blizzard's Overwatch in the wake of the game's announcement for Switch. As it turns out, at least one half of that equation is interested in the crossover happening.

During a discussion between IGN and vice president at Blizzard Entertainment and lead director of Overwatch, Jeff Kaplan, it was confirmed that Blizzard was very open to one of its Overwatch characters appearing in Smash Bros Ultimate. That's right, any of the current cast of characters were free game, according to Kaplan.

"To the Smash Brothers team, whatever character you want, we love them all. They’re all our babies, you can have any single one of them. We have 31 to choose from."

Of course, when probed further about which Overwatch character he think would be the best fit for Smash Ultimate Kaplan eventually caved and selected Tracer.

"Tracer's our girl, Tracer's our mascot. She'd be my first choice. There's a lot of great runners up. I think a lot of people can immediately see Doomfist gameplay applying to Smash, but if it were up to me, I'd like to see Tracer."

An Overwatch character would be a divisive character pick amongst the Smash Bros community. Truth be told, Overwatch is not a series that fans have been clamoring to see cross the threshold into Smash, but that hasn't stopped others from doing it anyway. Terry Bogard and Joker are both fighters added during the current DLC cycle that Smash fans didn't have much knowledge on beforehand. Still, the community has grown to enjoy their inclusion.

Another point that Blizzard fans could make is that someone from Warcraft, Diablo or Starcraft may be better suited for representing the studio's longstanding history. Keeping in mind that popular picks like Crash Bandicoot, Sora, and Geno.
