Slam Dunk's Return is Deserving of Fan Celebration
Takehiko Inoue's hit series, Slam Dunk, is one of the best-selling manga in history and it has had a significant influence on increasing the presence of basketball and basketball culture within Japan. It has been consistently popular since its release in 1990. In many ways, it is the marker for potential and cultural impact when it comes to sports manga. This makes its characters the perfect subject for an ukiyo-e art style.
This art is not only stunning, but very fitting for the time, as the series has made a big return. While the anime adaptation began airing in 1993, it only lasted until 1996. Four films inspired by the series were also created, but each was released within the '90s. Despite not having any new features for around twenty-five years, the series has begun its return with The First Slam Dunk, a new film. Having already released in Japan in December 2022, it's no wonder that fans would be flocking back to the manga and anime classic. As yet, an English release date has not been provided, but it seems likely that once it does arrive, fans will have even more reason to celebrate and find new ways to portray their favorite team member.
Slam Dunk is off to a great start in its return, as @Justin96636's fan art gives Shuhoku's starters the legendary makeover they deserve.
