Glenn Howerton, from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, had a challenge playing his “naive and slightly oblivious” cast of Sirens, including It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Glenn Howerton.

The actor, known for his comedic abilities, plays Ethan Corbin II, the secret boyfriend of Simone. In an interview with People, Glenn Howerton revealed that his character in Sirens was quite difficult to play because of the personality of Ethan. He said this:

"My character's very kind of naive and slightly oblivious, and I sort of pride myself on being the exact opposite of that in the real world. I try really to hard [sic] to understand how my actions affect other people and not move through the world in an oblivious manner.

[Ethan’s] more oblivious moments [are] a little difficult for me to play because it's just so different from me, but that's also what I love about it. We're always looking for a challenge. I don't want to be myself all the time on screen. Sometimes I do, and sometimes it's good to just put on a lucky blazer and be a totally different person."

What Glenn Howerton’s Statement About Sirens Means

Glenn Howerton Challenged Himself With Sirens

Howerton’s successful performances in both It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Netflix’s Sirens show his versatility as an actor. From a story, style, and tone perspective, these two shows are almost nothing alike. Even the comedy aspects of the two shows fall into different subgenres (lighthearted humor versus gallows humor). Yet, the actor masterfully navigates the differing requirements of the specific genres.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Glenn Howerton is starring in a highly rated new show, and it highlights a harsh new reality about Dennis.

Plus, Ethan Corbin II and Dennis Reynolds couldn't be more different as characters. Ethan is, as Howerton said, extremely naive to the world he’s living in. His wealth also allows him to live in a bubble. On the other hand, Dennis is hardened to his surroundings and knows how to manipulate the systems in which he’s involved. Audiences can have confidence, going into a show with Howerton, that he will be capable of handling a variety of character types and genres rather than only performing well in one area of entertainment.

Our Take On Glenn Howerton's Performance in Sirens

Glenn Howerton Is Delightful To Watch In Sirens

Ethan proposes to Simone in Netflix's Sirens

The performances from the cast are, without a doubt, one of the best parts of Netflix's Sirens. Despite the struggle of playing a naive character, Glenn Howerton gave a fantastic performance in Sirens. Part of his successful performance can be attributed to his ion for the Netflix original limited series. After all, I find that an actor’s ion for the project is often noticeable when watching a show.

Howerton is also just a competent professional who has honed his craft over the past 23 years, making him a delight to watch. The actor might primarily appear in comedies, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him branching out more often after the success of Sirens.
