The first trailer for Ryan Coogler's Sinners has been released. The highly-anticipated movie has been shrouded in mystery as it's been reported that the film will be a vampire story, but no plot details have been released until now. Sinners stars Michael B. Jordan in the lead role, with him having a role in every Coogler movie to date. In addition to Jordan, Sinners also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Wunmi Mosaku, Delroy Lindo, and Jack O’Connell. Coogler wrote and directed the movie with Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian as producers.
Now, Warner Bros. Pictures has released the trailer for Sinners. Jordan can be seen playing twins in the chilling first look at the highly anticipated movie. The Sinners trailer keeps the vampires enveloped in mystery and instead focuses on the terrified reactions of Jordan's twin characters and the other individuals who are confronted by this startling evil, and who must not be tempted to open their doors when it lurks outside. There is also a glimpse at Steinfeld's character, who can be seen dancing.
What This Means For Sinners
Jordan's Twin Characters Are Only The Tip Of The Iceberg
Sinners' twin reveal adds a new twist to Jordan and Coogler's reunion and teases the acting masterclass that Jordan will be putting on display. Since this has already been revealed, Jordan playing two characters is a part of the movie's premise that will presumably be made clear early on, leaving more shocking revelations to come later in the story. Much of this intrigue is rooted in the vampires themselves, as the trailer does not explicitly show them, a clever move that leaves more to the imagination and that will make their eventual introduction all the more horrifying.
Instead of holy symbols, Jordan's characters have their own weapons to combat this evil, including the gun he is seen firing at the end of the trailer.
As with many vampire stories, religion also looks to be playing an important role, as evidenced by the shot of a maimed individual stumbling into a church. His injury hints at the darkness that is rising and that even the faith of their churchgoers and their holy symbols will not be enough to stop the vampires. Instead of holy symbols, Jordan's characters have their own weapons to combat this evil, including the gun he is seen firing at the end of the trailer.
Our Take On The Sinners Trailer
It's Going To Be A Great Year Of Terrifying Vampire Movies
Sinners looks reminiscent of a good old-fashioned vampire horror movie that will be elevated by Jordan's dual performances and Coogler's distinct direction. Between Sinners, the Salem's Lot remake coming to Max, and the Nosferatu remake starring Bill Skarsgård, it is a good time to be a fan of vampire horror that makes the monsters feel truly terrifying again. The Sinners trailer does enough to whet the appetite while leaving viewers wanting to see more of the original terrifying tale.
