What This Means For Sinners & Coogler

Sinners Is Now Coogler's Highest-Rated Film

This 100% score makes Sinners the highest-rated film in Coogler's filmography to date. Beginning with Fruitvale Station in 2018, Coogler has directed a total of five films in his career. Previously, the director's highest-rated movie among critics was Black Panther in 2018, which got a 96% Tomatometer, and every single one of his films has been in the fresh zone on the aggregator site. This makes Sinners an even more impressive career feat, as it is a high score on an already strong list of films.

One of Sinners' champions is a notable name in the film industry himself: Spike Lee. After seeing an early screening of the movie, Lee could not have had better things to say about Coogler's film. Taking to social media, Lee noted that he "Just Had The Greatest Experience Of Watching A Film In Years." He called Sinners "BLACK CINEMATIC POWER" in an enthusiastic post. Lee's ringing endorsement is now further ed by the strong critical reception of Sinners overall.

Our Take On Sinners' RT Score

This Is A Good Sign For Sinners' Box Office

Sinners' impressive Rotten Tomatoes debut is a good sign for the movie's box office. Coogler's films have generally done well on a financial level, but this is the first time the director has helmed a completely original story, with no based-on-a-true story narrative or existing IP to work off of. While a riskier effort than an MCU movie, the glowing reviews of Sinners make it more likely that the film will succeed theatrically. If it does take off in theaters, Sinners could become the first mega-hit R-rated movie in 2025.
