Though Sims 4 is first and foremost a life sim game, for many players it is also a way to unleash creativity through building and deg homes and public lots. With so many features that allow a variety of design options, many players are only limited by their imagination.

However, there are some tricks that many have discovered that take good home builds in Sims 4 and turn them into something that looks like it was designed by professionals. These tricks include everything from a simple roof alteration to ways to unlock hundreds of new items.

10 Platforms (Floor Levels)

Different Floor Levelings in Sims 4

One simple alteration that can give a simple home an entirely new feel is platforms. This is another way of saying that players can change the leveling of different areas of their houses in Sims 4. There is a leveling tool that can be used to do this, but if applied to an exterior wall, it will delete the entire wall.

The way around this is to create a room with walls like normal over the area that needs to be raised, then raise the flooring to the desired elevation and remove the interior walls. Players can raise the elevation to varying lengths creating small stepping platforms, just be sure to adjust roof height if building them higher.

9 Moveobjects Cheat

The Moveobjects cheat is one many players know as it's one of the most widely used ones in the game. Simply put, the move objects cheat can be initiated by opening the command menu (Command+Shift+C) and typing in bb.moveobjects will allow players to place objects anywhere they want in the game. This means that players can ignore the pre-programmed squares on floors and walls and are no longer confined to placing objects in a specific way.

Allowing elaborate builds in Sims 4 that would otherwise not be an option. However, be warned that the objects will not function when placed this way, they will work as decor. So use it for things like a picture frame, not a door.

8 Clean Roofing

One major aspect when it comes to building roofs that can make them feel that much more professional is knowing when to segment them. Often, having one whole roof piece is going to leave different sections overlapping or make them look simplified and boring.

Separating a piece into sections that could otherwise be one piece allows players to have a little more control. For example, if two roofs intersect, the lengths of an end segment can be changed to prevent what appears to be unnatural roofing in their unique Sims 4 builds. Players can alter just one side of a roof segment by holding shift when they move the smaller arrows.

7 Floating Object Cheat

Floating objects in Sims 4

For this cheat to work, bb.moveobjects Sims 4 game cheat needs to be active. Though this may seem like the same kind of thing, it's not. If simply trying to use moveobjects to place an item like the keys above in any spot on a table, it won't work. Simply because that cheat only works with the orientation points of the lot, not on other objects.

So in order to place something on a table in any location, it needs to essentially be floating. To do so, players need to raise the object (Control+9) up to the height of the table. Now with moveobjects on, they'll be able to move it around where they would like, at the correct height. Then simply move the table back underneath the floating object and voilà, it will appear placed on the table. Control+0 can be used to lower objects as well.

6 Unlock All Careers Furniture

One aspect that can be rather annoying when building in Sims 4 is being prohibited from items that are associated with certain careers. There are several simple items, such as desk chairs, that are locked unless a Sim is pursuing that specific career and has reached the level to unlock it.

Luckily, there is also a cheat to unlock all items like this, so players can build freely with whatever they want. After opening the command menu, type in bb.ignoregameplayunlocksentitlement which will unlock everything to be used freely in any build.

5 Show Hidden Objects

Hidden Objects in Sims 4

Show hidden objects is another Sims 4 cheat code similar to the unlocking career items one. It will give access to locked objects, but in this case, it unlocks hidden objects that are not otherwise in the building menu in the first place. To do this, open the command menu and input bb.showhiddenobjects and this will add a whole collection of items that weren't previously available.

Some of these are even items used in public lots like water towers or large signs or even entire simulated homes, all to be used as decor and give the community a natural feeling.

4 Size Up or Down Objects

Three objects scaled up and down in The Sims 4

With the scaling cheat in Sims 4, players are able to alter the size of objects. However, similar to moveobjects, anything that is outside its normal size will not function properly. So this is only intended for items that are going to purely be decor. This is a great option for scaling up things such as plants, rugs, or even wall decor that doesn't quite fit the intended space.

Since these items have no functional purpose for Sims, scaling them up or down won't have any additional inhibitions. In order to scale an item players will need to use the bracket keys ([, ]).

3 Custom Flooring

Different custom floor patterns in Sims 4

Though it may not seem necessary to alter flooring given that there are so many options in Sims 4, players may want to either alternate the direction of certain s in a specific area or even make a custom pattern. Using the greater than or less than keys () players are able to rotate flooring.

More than that, using Control+F will allow them to select just a triangle section of the floor which can be used to make custom diamond patterns or anything players can think of by combining different flooring styles together in new ways. This allows fewer limitations and more customization when it comes to flooring.

2 Shelving Cheat

Shelving in Sims 4

This is pretty similar to the floating objects cheat for tables, but it will be used for shelving items, including bookshelves or cabinets that hand on the wall. Many of these items have open gaps on them with no slots available to sit anything inside of them, so they just have to remain as is.

Well, not anymore, using that same floating objects cheat in Sims 4 (Control+9), players can place a cabinet or shelf on a wall and then place an object on the floor beneath it. Then they can move that object up the wall until it appears to be sitting perfectly on the shelf. This gives homes more of that lived-in feel and keeps them from feeling empty.

1 Sunroof

Sunroof in Sims 4

When it comes to roofing, though there are a lot of tricks for cleaner roofs, there are also many interesting designs players can make if they're willing to experiment a bit. For example, players can make custom sunroofs by segmenting the roof and shrinking individual sections.

Players will need to use the half-gable roof and split it into three sections. Then they will need to shrink the middle section and create another piece of roofing to be the end. Then the middle gaping section can just be made into a clear roof and thus players will have their own custom sunroof in Sims 4 which they can add on to bring a little more light into any home.
