Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Eternaut.
Apple TV+ sci-fi show has had a strong run so far and will likely continue its upward trajectory with its confirmed season 3.
Although Netflix sci-fi TV show comes close to immersing viewers in a similar post-apocalyptic landscape.
Netflix's The Eternaut Is Perfect For Fans Of Silo
The Eternaut Initially Adopts A Familiar Story Setup
In Silo's opening moments, it is established that the citizens of the titular underground structure cannot head outside because the air is toxic and can kill anyone who gets exposed to it. Something similar happens in The Eternaut's early story beats. Toxic snow falls from the sky, making it impossible for humans to step outside without dying. Like Silo's main characters, the ones in The Eternaut use vacuum suits and masks to protect themselves from the toxic environment outside before stepping out of their homes and finding the truth about what is happening.

What Caused The Apocalypse In The Eternaut
The Eternaut presents a unique, never-seen-before post-apocalyptic setup in its opening moments, raising many questions about its apocalypse's cause.
Although The Eternaut eventually heads in a significantly different direction as it progresses and becomes more about alien invasions and time loops, some of its story beats remain in sync with Silo's. Silo is more realistic in the sense that it never adopts supernatural elements. However, both shows highlight how humans grow both curious and paranoid when they find themselves dealing with the unknown. In both, an overarching force also uses manipulation to keep the masses in control while the protagonist attempts to walk down the dangerous path of defiance.
Why The Eternaut's Rotten Tomatoes Score Is So High
The Eternaut Stays True To Its Source Material
Similar to Silo, The Eternaut is gaining immense appreciation for honoring its source material instead of taking too many creative liberties. As highlighted in Screen Rant's The Eternaut review, the Netflix series does not shy away from modernizing the original story but ensures that it captures the core elements of its source. The Eternaut is further elevated by its harrowing visuals of bright yet desolate snow-clad cityscapes. It completely immerses a viewer in its post-apocalyptic drama by visually capturing the scale of destruction caused by the central world-ending event.
...The Eternaut finds a way to create a unique identity for itself by presenting a multi-layered alien invasion narrative that also becomes a relevant allegory for a veteran's struggles with PTSD.
Given how many alien invasion movies and shows have hit the big and small screens since the inception of cinema, standing out in the genre is no easy feat. Yet, The Eternaut finds a way to create a unique identity for itself by presenting a multi-layered alien invasion narrative that also becomes a relevant allegory for a veteran's struggles with PTSD. Like Silo season 1, The Eternaut also cleverly avoids giving away too much about its story's direction in its first chapter but presents enough revelations to leave room for audiences to speculate and look forward to its next installment.
