Warning: This article contains spoilers for Apple TV+'s Silo.
Silo episode 7 is jampacked with many revelations surrounding Juliette's tragic past and the Silo's grim secrets - here's a breakdown of all of its primary reveals. After starting slow and only gradually developing its central city's worldbuilding in the first few episodes, Silo picks up pace in episode 6 by walking viewers through the dire effects of "The Syndrome," the truth behind Bernard's motives, and the immoral ways in which the Judicial spies on the Silo's unsuspecting citizens. In addition, episode 6 also gives Juliette a whole new direction in her investigation after she discovers a forbidden book that holds secrets of the outside world.
Picking up right after the ending moments of episode 6, Silo episode 7 primarily focuses on Juliette's pursuit of seeking more answers from Gloria, who had ed on the book relic to George's mother. Getting in touch with Gloria initially proves challenging, but Juliette puts her problem-solving skills to good use and takes her father's help to reach her goal. In all these moments of tracing down Gloria and interviewing her in episode 7, Juliette also comes across other significant Silo mysteries and dips her feet in complicated relationships.
6 Judge Meadows Is Not The Leader Of The Silo
After realizing that Gloria may have the answers she seeks, Juliette first visits Judge Meadows for help. When Meadows' assistant at the Judicial tells her that the Judge called in sick for the day, Juliette visits her home to ask her if she could talk to Gloria. Although Meadows agrees to talk after Juliette threatens her, she refuses to allow her to meet Gloria. When Juliette tries confronting Meadows, the Judge claims that even if she wanted to permit Juliette to have a private interview with Gloria, she would not be able to since "they" would not allow her.
By "they," Meadows seems to be referring to a higher authority in the Silo, who she has to answer to. So far in the dystopian world of Silo, Judge Meadows was seemingly at the top of the underground city's hierarchy since she called the shots for most decisions. However, the fact that she, too, answers to someone above her suggests that she and the entire Judicial may not be Silo's big bad. This raises the possibility that Bernard could be the Silo's head and Juliette's primary nemesis. He is only pretending to be on her side to manipulate and misguide her in her quest to find the truth.
5 Juliette & Lukas’ Relationship Takes A New Turn
In one of the lighter moments of Silo episode 7, Juliette runs into Lukas at the cafeteria again. Instead of gazing at the stars and wondering about the mysteries of the outside world, the two end up sharing a warm moment. However, Juliette quickly resists Lukas' attempts to get close to her after realizing that she has far bigger problems to tackle before she can consider getting into another relationship. While Lukas seems well-intentioned, he works in IT, which could spell trouble for Juliette if Tim Robbins' Bernard is Silo's main antagonist.
Given how easily Bernard manipulates the people around him, he could use Lukas to plot against Juliette if he learns about their relationship. Lukas seems too innocent to understand how far Bernard would be willing to go to keep the Silo's secrets hidden from the citizens. And even if he does foresee what Bernard is up to, he could land in some serious trouble if he comes in the Head of IT's way of overpowering Juliette.
4 Juliette’s Mother, Hanna Nichols, Was A Flamekeeper
When Juliette finally manages to meet Gloria alone for a few moments with her father's help, Gloria tells her about the Silo's nefarious attempts to silence its citizens. She recalls that the Silo's last rebellion, which ensued about 140 years before the current events, was led by a group of rebels known as the Flamekeepers. They were the ones who did not blindly conform to the Silo's restrictions and chose to embrace their curiosity instead of suppressing it. However, after realizing that the Flamekeepers threatened the Silo's security and order, the Silo's leaders started eradicating them by either killing them or itting them to mental health facilities.
Gloria reveals that George Wilkins' mother was also a Flamekeeper — the last of her kind. She adds that Juliette's mother, too, shared the same curiosity and knack for finding the truth as the Flamekeepers. Unfortunately, the Silo's authoritarian leaders shut her down and put out her flame before she could trigger a change. Since George Wilkins was also trying to unravel the secrets of the Silo, he was also somewhat of a Flamekeeper. Following his death, Juliette is the only Flamekeeper in the Silo, and the subterranean city's future rests in her hands.
3 Real Reason Why Birth Control Was Forced On Some Women In The Silo
Gloria also claims that the Silo did not implement birth control measures to inhibit the growth of city's population. Instead, they selectively planted birth control devices to breed out the population of the Flamekeepers. Following the rebellion, the Silo's leading forces started mixing a compound in the city's water to make people gradually forget about the past. Since the Flamekeepers still resisted their rule and tried preserving relics that reminded them of the real world's history, the Silo's rulers killed them and hoped to remove their next of kin by restricting their reproduction. Little did they realize that human curiosity is an intrinsic trait shared by all Silo citizens regardless of whether they are Flamekeepers.
2 Juliette’s Father Was Involved In The Silo’s Malicious Schemes
When Gloria sees Juliette's father, Pete, she starts panicking and recounts how he was involved with the Silo's mission to control births. When Juliette confronts him towards the end of Silo episode 7, he tries defending himself by saying that he was unaware of the Silo's leaders' true motivations and was only a part of the scheme to help curb the population growth for everyone's benefit. Pete's confession suggests that he was likely naive about what they were making him do. However, his inability to question the Silo's authorities hints that he could unknowingly be responsible for Hanna's death.
1 Silo Episode 7’s Ending Makes Juliette's Silo Fate Bleaker
Juliette finally finds the hard drive towards the end of Silo episode 7 and even gathers enough anecdotal evidence against the Silo's leaders' immoral activities. However, with Sims and his men behind her back, she has limited time to access the information on the hard drive and plan her next step to turn the tables on the Judicial and IT. With only three more episodes to go in Silo season 1, Juliette will either find a way to trigger a new rebellion as the Silo's last Flamekeeper or end up meeting the same fate as Allison, Holston, George Wilkins, and others of her kind.
New episodes of Silo release Fridays on Apple TV+.
