Warning: This article contains spoilers for Apple TV+'s Silo and Hugh Howey's Silo book series.

Apple TV+'s Silo has not yet established Avi Nash's Lukas as a primary character, but several episode 5 details suggest he may hold the key to unraveling the Silo's secrets in the future. Silo first introduced Lukas in episode 4 when Juliette found him staring into the ruins of the outside world from the cafeteria's window. While this encounter between the two characters only served as an ice-breaker and did not reveal much about Lukas' role in Silo's overarching storyline, episode 5 delved deeper into how he could contribute to Juliette's search for the truth.

While crossing the cafeteria in Silo's episode 5, Juliette runs into Lukas Kyle again. In a brief conversation that ensues between the two, Lukas reveals that he has been observing the night sky of the outside world for quite some time and has focused explicitly on the patterns of the stars, which he calls "lights." While his insights on the flickering lights in the sky do not directly contribute to Juliette's investigation in any way, the way he thinks seems to foreshadow his significance in Silo.

Lukas' Episode 5 Scene Foreshadows His Significance In Silo

When Lukas meets Juliette in Silo episode 5, he claims that the "lights" seem to travel in a big circle. He also shows her a rough diagram of the same, suggesting he has been tracking the movement of the W-shaped Cassiopeia constellation. His ability to look beyond the closed walls of the Silo and notice patterns in the outside world reveal that, like Juliette, George Wilkins, and Allison, he is a freethinker. Unlike most regular citizens of the underground bunker, he does not confine his thinking into little boxes of ignorance, which could mean he will eventually help Juliette decipher many mysteries of the Silo.

Free thinkers like him and Juliette not only observe lights in the sky but also question and challenge authority. Instead of blindly following rules enforced on them and succumbing to the propaganda and fear-mongering tactics of the Silo's governing bodies, they learn to think for themselves. In other words, they are the ones who escape the proverbial cave in Silo's representations of Plato's allegory and purposefully risk exposing themselves to new ideas despite realizing their potentially dire consequences. Considering how Lukas' ability to think freely can be instrumental in uncovering the Silo's truths, he will likely forces with Juliette at some point.

Is Lukas Juliette's Ally In The Original Silo Books?

Rebecca Ferguson pulls a lever in Silo

In the original Silo books, Lukas and Juliette get romantically involved with one another. However, because of the strict regulations surrounding the sanctioning of relationships in the Silo and other complex political issues, they keep their relationship a secret. As Apple TV+'s Silo seems to foreshadow, Lukas also puts his undogmatic thinking to good use in the books and helps Juliette get closer to the answers she seeks. Since Lukas works in the Silo's IT under Bernard (played by Tim Robbins in Silo), his relationship with Juliette goes through many trials and tribulations. However, despite facing many challenges in the original Silo novels, Lukas does everything he can to look out for Juliette.

New episodes of Silo release Fridays on Apple TV+.
