The latest news from Weekly Shonen Jump seems to indicate that Dragon Ball Super has some big news in store, although fans may have to wait until December to hear it. However, given the position that Dragon Ball Super is currently in, any news is good news.

Weekly Shonen Jump has made the announcement about which series will occupy major spots at the annual Jump Festa event, which takes place in December each year. According to the latest issue of Shonen Jump, Dragon Ball Super will be among the series featured on the Red Stage, which is typically reserved for popular series with major announcements to make. This would seem to suggest that Dragon Ball Super, which has been on hiatus since Akira Toriyama's tragic ing in March 2024, may finally be poised to make its return to the pages of Jump.

While there is no indication as to what exactly their plans for the Red Stage might be, the series' presence there must indicate something relatively major.

Dragon Ball Super's Hiatus to End Soon?

Dragon Ball Super Has Been the Focus of Much Speculation

Since Toriyama's ing, Dragon Ball Super has maintained its spot in Jump by filling it with specials, featuring insights and artwork by the series' artist Toyotarou. That alone suggested it would return at some point, although the question has been when and in what form. Other recent news indicates that Dragon Ball Super will be returning with Toyotarou at the wheel, so it seems that events are in motion to bring Dragon Ball Super back to the fans.

Dragon Ball Super left off at a rather convenient point to end on, with the Super Hero adaptation arc having just been completed, so the story was in a good place for a pause. However, there are still several ongoing storylines that fans are eager to see addressed, not the least of which being the return of Frieza in his new Black Frieza form, which occurred before the Super Hero adaptation began. Many fans expect that Black Frieza will be the star of the next story arc, given where things left off, although that has yet to be confirmed given the circumstances.

Frieza's dramatic return would make for a suitably exciting announcement for Jump Festa, and would kick off a new story arc that could easily carry Dragon Ball Super into its new era. While some fans may have their reservations about continuing the series without Toriyama's guidance, Toyotarou has had a hand in the writing of Dragon Ball Super arcs before, including the much-beloved Moro arc, so there's no reason to doubt his ability to handle the story alone. Toriyama may also have left notes behind for Toyotarou to work from, so he won't necessarily be going at this completely alone, or at least not initially.

Whatever news Jump Festa might have in store for Dragon Ball Super should be fairly significant to justify its placement at the Red Stage, and what could be more significant than the series resuming serialization? Fans of Dragon Ball Super will simply have to wait for Jump Festa to find out precisely what news is coming their way.
