Warning: contains spoilers for Shang-Chi #10!
Marvel's his evil father's criminal empire. He has alienated both his close friends in the form of the Avengers and his family, and now in Shang-Chi #10, the character is one of the most hated heroes.
In the previous comic arc, Shang-Chi vs the Marvel Universe, Shang-Chi decided to keep his father's old criminal empire - the Five Weapons Society - and reshape them into a force for good. Unfortunately, Shang-Chi's family is highly traditional and frowns against him teaming up with the likes of Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and other Avengers. They view appeasement as a sign of weakness, and Shang-Chi must battle them all, from Wolverine to Thor himself.
In the aftermath of fighting the God of Thunder, Shang-Chi's mother reveals herself, along with Shang-Chi's grandfather, thus kicking off a new story arc in Shang-Chi #10. Deadly Sabre, Shang-Chi's brother, is guarded by the Guardsmen - a rather weak group of guards armed with rifles (weapons Shang-Chi can easily dismantle within seconds). When Shang-Chi and his family attack the Guardsmen to free Deadly Sabre, one of the defeated guards mockingly says "What happened to...a force for good?" as the family escapes.
Shang-Chi's past is incongruous with his present, even though he has no intention of becoming a criminal like his father. Long ago, when pushed into a conflict between his father and his grandfather, Shang-Chi sided with Zheng Zhu and attacked his mother's father, causing the latter to condemn Shang-Chi; in his eyes, the grandson was just like his father. Shang-Chi has clearly suffered some form of childhood trauma as a result and is constantly torn between his highly traditional family and his fellow Avengers; his desire to maintain his father's criminal empire (even as a force for good) might not be entirely his own.
Currently, Shang-Chi and his family are in the mystical realm of Ta Lo, and on a brand-new adventure. However, the Guardsmen haven't forgotten Shang-Chi's attack, nor have the other Avengers forgotten the actions of the Five Weapons Society. Shang-Chi is truly hated in the Marvel Universe now, and no one knows exactly how he can win back the trust of his fellow heroes.
