Marvel's Shang-Chi movie for 20 years now, and it has finally come to fruition thanks to the work of director Destin Daniel Cretton. Shang-Chi was officially announced to be in the works at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, with Simu Liu taking on the lead role. After several COVID-related delays, the movie will debut exclusively in theaters on September 3.
Set after the events of the Ten Rings, the criminal organization run by his father the Mandarin (Tony Leung). However, his time away from home is up, and as the Mandarin works to bring Shang-Chi back into the Ten Rings' fold, Shang-Chi must take a stand. As with most Marvel solo projects, it's expected that Shang-Chi will play a major part in the MCU's Phase 4 and beyond.
Right now, Shang-Chi's future is unclear, but the movie's post-credits scenes can provide some clues. Marvel has become known for attaching extra moments to their credits to tease what's to come, and Shang-Chi won't be an exception. It will have two post-credits scenes, as confirmed through the world premiere that took place on Monday.
Two is the typical number for Marvel post-credits scenes, though some movies have been known to change that up. Most recently, Hawkeye, so it stands to reason that Shang-Chi's extra scenes will also pave the way for future projects. They will likely hint at where the character is going next since that remains a large question mark. In fact, fans could be treated to a glimpse of him suiting up alongside another Marvel hero.
At this point, no idea is too absurd, so there's even a chance that one of the Shang-Chi post-credits scenes will set up Captain Marvel. Fans can speculate for the next few weeks as they wait to see the movie themselves.
