Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Secret Invasion episode 2.Secret Invasion episode 2 followed in its predecessor's footsteps by including several shocking reveals about the Skrulls, the show's story, and Nick Fury himself. Secret Invasion episode 1 proved quickly that Marvel Studios is not afraid to make big calls in regard to the series' story and its characters. The opening scene revealed Martin Freeman's Everett Ross as a Skrull, throwing into doubt who both Nick Fury and the audience could trust in Marvel Studios' newest Disney+ show.
This continued by the time Secret Invasion episode 2's ending rolled around, with the show's second outing including similarly huge reveals. Secret Invasion episode 2 allowed the show to delve much deeper into the complex story and characters at the heart of the series, bringing with it plenty of different twists and turns going into the show's remaining four episodes. With that being said, here is every one of the reveals and twists in Secret Invasion episode 2 and the potential ramifications of each one.
8 The Skrulls Didn’t Find A Planet After Captain Marvel
The opening of Secret Invasion episode 2 included MCU Easter eggs to Captain Marvel, from direct clips of the show to outlining what has transpired with the Skrulls after the events of the film. After Secret Invasion episode 1 raised the question of why Gravik is invading Earth after Carol Danvers promised to find the Skrulls their own planet, episode 2 shockingly revealed that Captain Marvel and Nick Fury's plan failed. These flashback scenes to the 1990s revealed that the Skrulls were persecuted no matter which planet they settled on, explaining why they still do not have anywhere to call home by the time of Secret Invasion.
7 Nick Fury Was Responsible For Skrulls Hiding On Earth
Another huge reveal in the opening sequences of Secret Invasion episode 2 is that Fury is responsible for the Skrulls hiding on Earth initially. After his and Carol's first plan to find the Skrulls a home failed, Fury struck a mutually beneficial deal with the aliens. This deal involved them being covertly hidden on Earth as spies for the U.S. Government and Fury himself. The Skrulls would operate as such in the meantime, while Carol and Fury searched for a planet on which they could live within the galaxy.
This provides a lot of context to Fury's espionage success over the years. Finding out that he had several Skrulls hidden across the planet feeding him information explains why he is the best spy on the planet. It also adds credence to the theory that many of Fury's appearances in the MCU have been Skrulls, as he has been working with them since before the events of Iron Man.
6 There Are Up To 1 Million Skrulls Hidden On Earth During Secret Invasion
One thing that was clear from Secret Invasion episode 1 was that Nick Fury was not aware of exactly how many Skrulls were hidden on Earth. Secret Invasion episode 2, then, astonishingly revealed that around one million Skrulls could be hidden on the human homeworld. Talos stated that he put a call out to the survivors of Skrullos' destruction and that every one of them who was not part of Emperor Dogge's colony responded and traveled to Earth. This means that there are a minimum of hundreds of thousands of Skrulls hiding on Earth, up to a total of one million.
5 The Skrulls Have Infiltrated Human Positions Of Power In Secret Invasion
One of Secret Invasion episode 2's other massive reveals links to the Marvel Comics run of the same name. It was revealed in the episode that Gravik's Skrull council on Earth consists of Skrulls who have successfully infiltrated positions of power or influence in human society. From a news anchor on an American news station that can spread any information to the masses to the NATO Secretary General and even the U.K. Prime Minister, the Skrulls have successfully infiltrated high-influence positions across the globe.
This will likely have ramifications for the future of Secret Invasion, as Gravik can continue pinning the blame for his terrorist attacks on anyone he likes. As seen with the Moscow bombing being pinned on the United States, Gravik's council has immeasurable sway in of public opinion and political power. This links to the Secret Invasion comics, in which the Skrulls were revealed to be impersonating not just politicians, but superheroes too.
4 Nick Fury Was Fired As A United States Agent
In of Nick Fury's character specifically, Secret Invasion episode 2 included many shocking reveals. The second one, after the fact that he was initially responsible for the Skrulls hiding on Earth, is that he was fired as an agent of the U.S. Government. During a conversation with James Rhodes, Fury was fired by the Colonel. After Rhodes and Fury had such a strong relationship in prior MCU projects, many think Secret Invasion's Rhodey is actually a Skrull. Fury's firing at the hands of the U.S. President with Rhodey asking to do it personally certainly s this theory.
3 The Skrulls Have Obtained DNA From Powerful MCU Species
The endgame for the entire series was hinted at in Secret Invasion episode 2 through a shocking reveal. It was disclosed that the Skrulls have been obtaining samples from various species across the MCU with significant power. During an investigation into this, G'iah found that the Skrulls have DNA samples from beings like Cull Obsidian from Avengers: Infinity War, a Frost Beast from Thor: The Dark World, Extremis soldiers from Iron Man 3, and even Groot from his time on Earth during Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
2 Gravik Intends To Upgrade The Skrulls’ Power For His Invasion
Similarly, Secret Invasion episode 2 includes the shocking reveal that Gravik intends to use these DNA samples to "upgrade" the Skrulls. Gravik has enlisted the help of a scientist named Rosa Dalton who is obtaining these DNA samples while searching for something called the Harvest. While it is unclear what the Harvest is, Gravik is building a machine that utilizes DNA samples to make Skrulls stronger, with the Harvest likely being one that imbues the Skrulls with the immeasurable power needed to enable his invasion of Earth to be much easier.
This machine from Secret Invasion will likely lead to the creation of the MCU's Super Skrulls. In the comics, Super Skrulls were beings imbued with superpowers that were obtained by Skrull scientists who studied various superhuman hosts. As such, it is likely Rosa Dalton is studying the DNA samples from the various aforementioned powerful species in order to create Super Skrulls to aid Gravik's invasion.
1 Secret Invasion Revealed Nick Fury Is Married
Perhaps the most shocking reveal of Secret Invasion episode 2 though was that Nick Fury is married. At the end of the episode, Fury travels to a suburban house in which a Skrull resides. The Skrull eventually takes the form of a human, who tells Fury that he is missing something. Fury then reaches for a ring and places it on his left ring finger, before embracing the woman who turns out to be his wife. This is a huge reveal regarding Nick Fury and completely recontextualizes his entire MCU - and Secret Invasion - journey.
The Skrull that he is married to is the same one from the 1997 flashbacks earlier in the episode, hinting that Fury may have been married in every single one of his MCU appearances barring Captain Marvel. Similarly, it explains why Fury is so endlessly dedicated to helping the Skrulls, considering he married a Skrull woman. While it is unclear exactly how big a role Fury's wife will play in the series, the reveal in Secret Invasion episode 2 will likely have a massive impact on the remaining four episodes.
