Set footage from Marvel's Emilia Clarke's mystery character, MCU newcomers include Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Colman, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, and Carmen Ejogo. Several notable actors reprise their MCU roles in the series, too. For instance, Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn's Talos, and Cobie Smulders' Maria Hill all return. However, Marvel is still keeping the series' details under wraps.
Secret Invasion will take on Marvel's 2008 eight-issue comic book series of the same name. The comic book crossover from writer Brian Michael Bendis featured the Skrulls orchestrating a long-term invasion of Earth. With the Skrulls' ability to transform and mimic other characters, Marvel revealed that several heroes were secretly the shapeshifter aliens. Marvel's Skrull story will also continue in a follow-up from Spider-Man: Far From Home. In Captain Marvel, the MCU introduces the Skrulls with an intergalactic war between the Skrull Empire and the Kree. Additionally, Spider-Man: Far From Home reveals Skrulls were impersonating Nick Fury and Maria Hill.
The footage of Emilia Clarke fighting an actor in a motion-capture suit offers several possibilities. With Secret Invasion being a story about the Skrulls taking over Earth, Clarke's character could be taking on the shapeshifting aliens. However, the motion capture suit hints there could be more going on, with the character truly being a Super Skrull. On the other hand, Marvel revealed that the shapeshifting green Skrulls were innocuous in the MCU, suggesting that the Kree or another mystery assailant is attacking Clarke's character.
Emilia Clarke Is Fighting A Skrull
With Secret Invasion revolving around Skrulls attempting to invade the Earth, Emilia Clarke's character could be going toe-to-toe with one of the green aliens. Throughout the Secret Invasion storyline in the comics, Marvel reveals several of its staple characters were secretly Skrulls, including Hank Pym, who's portrayed onscreen by Michael Douglas. And Secret Invasion's comic book covers teased essentially any hero having a secret identity as a Skrull. With so much uncertainty around Skrulls in the MCU, it seems one of the aliens is a prime candidate to take on Clarke in the scene.
However, Samuel L. Jackson's MCU character for an invasion. Because of the goodwill between the Earthlings and the Skrulls, an invasion may come from a small group of the shapeshifters. So there's still a possibility that they're the ones attacking Emilia Clarke's MCU character.
Emilia Clarke Is Fighting A Super Skrull
In Captain Marvel, the filmmakers emphasized practical effects to bring the Skrulls to life. For instance, Ben Mendelsohn went through an extensive makeup process for his character, Talos. Considering Marvel's practical effects for the creatures, the motion-capture suit may seem out of place for a regular Skrull. However, while Marvel could've simply adjusted its effects process for Skrulls, the suit may hint that there's more in the footage than meets the eye. For example, the assailant could be a Super Skrull, requiring a motion-capture suit to display its abilities.
Super Skrulls are elite warriors and infiltrators in the Skrull Empire. The characters can imitate the appearance and powers of the Marvel heroes. With the inclusion of Super Skrulls, Secret Invasion could have any MCU character show up and seem completely normal before being revealed as a secret villain. For instance, Skrull Queen Veranke was the character that initiated the Earth invasion in Secret Invasion, posing as heroine Spider-Woman. She also uses Spider-Woman's DNA to get various powers. With the inclusion of Super Skrulls, any character could seem completely normal, powers and all, until the series reveals their Skrull secret.
Emilia Clarke Is Fighting The Kree
The Kree have a long history of showing up as MCU villains. In a Captain Marvel twist, Jude Law's Yon-Rogg was a Kree villain leading the war against the Skrulls and manipulating Loki, saying, "You know, we brought in Kree, Titans, vampires. Why is it the two orphan demigods are such a pain in the ass?" With the Kree being a constant enemy of basically everyone in the MCU and the villains' penchant for geting involved in any storyline with the Skrulls, the mystery villain could be a Kree as well.
Additionally, fans have speculated that Emilia Clarke is playing Veranke in the series. Previous speculation placed Clarke as Abigail Brand, a former SHIELD agent who becomes the head of SWORD in Marvel's comics. But the actor is missing that comic book character's signature green hair in footage and images from the Secret Invasion set. If Clarke is playing Veranke, it will make sense for the Kree to attack her. After all, the Kree and Skrulls are seemingly still battling throughout the MCU's timeline. Of course, if she did initiate the invasion of Earth, any superhero would have it out for her as well, making a motion-capture suit all the more necessary.
