With Bill Lawrence has confirmed he is "so very close" to making it a very real possibility in the near future.
All nine seasons of Scrubs originally aired between 2001 and 2010, although the show's final run of episodes was very different. Although Zach Braff returned as JD in the Med School episodes, he was gradually phased out of the sitcom's new format. During this transitionary period where Scrubs' leading man slowly made his exit, season 9 made it very clear who would be taking the baton from Braff's character. Scrubs season 9 led to the show's cancelation, but JD's intended replacement can't be ignored when the sitcom returns.
Scrubs' Revival Will Include The Original Cast, But Shouldn't Forget About Lucy
Kerry Bishé debuted as Lucy Bennett in Scrubs season 9
Bill Lawrence has confirmed he plans to combine the original cast with new characters in Scrubs season 10 - but there's a group of personnel who don't fall into either of those two groups. The interns in Scrubs season 9 never appeared in the previous eight runs, so while they wouldn't be new characters in the revival, it would be disingenuous to call them of the original cast too. Included in season 9's new crop of interns was Kerry Bishé's Lucy Bennett - who gradually took over the show's narration duties as Braff headed for the door.
Med School strongly implied that Lucy was set to embark on a journey very similar to that of JD, so her arc not being acknowledged in Scrubs season 10 would be a huge waste of Med School's intentions.
Lucy was one of many Scrubs characters to provide the show's voiceover during its nine years on the air, but she was easily in second place to JD - who was the sitcom's usual storyteller. Although the Scrubs revival presumably won't try to move away from the original cast like season 9 did, that doesn't mean Bishé's character should be shelved. Med School strongly implied that Lucy was set to embark on a journey very similar to that of JD, so her arc not being acknowledged in Scrubs season 10 would be a huge waste of Med School's intentions.
Lucy Is An Underrated Part Of Scrubs Season 9
Bennett's character wasn't to blame for Med School's failure
There's no denying that Scrubs: Med School was riddled with faults, but not every inch of the softly rebooted sitcom was a complete disaster. Despite every poor decision and disappointing change made ahead of Scrubs season 9, Lucy was actually a pretty good replacement for JD. She maintained the nerdy, unsure traits of JD's younger self while also pushing the show's protagonist archetype into new territory.

Scrubs' Revival Already Has Dr. Cox’s Perfect Replacement Ready For When JD Gets His Dream Ending
The Scrubs revival can only really end one way, and when it does, the sitcom already has a contingency in place for when JD settles into his new role.
If JD had to leave the show. Kerry Bishé's character was one of the best ways to honor his legacy. Although Lucy's time learning from Dr. John "JD" Dorian was brief, their student/teacher dynamic was a fitting way for Braff to hand the reins of the sitcom to his successor. Lucy was one of the brighter sparks of a deeply flawed attempt to continue Scrubs beyond its perfect season 8 finale, and it would be great to see her return in the pending revival.
How Lucy Can Return In The Scrubs Revival
Lucy could simply have remained at Sacred Heart and risen through the ranks
Scrubs season 10 faces several challenges, and one of those is deciding how Lucy can come back. It almost goes without saying that her role in the revival wouldn't be as prominent this time around, but that doesn't mean she can't have a part to play in the story's continuation after so long. Scrubs has been dormant for such a sizable period that Lucy will be more qualified and experienced than the original cast was when the sitcom ended, and that revelation means she is deserving of a senior position at Sacred Heart Hospital.
There's no guarantee that Lucy will have remained at Sacred Heart for the last 15 or so years, so she could have moved on to work at a new hospital after her internship was over.
Of course, there's no guarantee that Lucy will have remained at Sacred Heart for the last 15 or so years, so she could have moved on to work at a new hospital after her internship was over. Although this would give a satisfyingly clean break between seasons 9 and 10, Sacred Heart often prides itself on promoting from within. Therefore, it would make far more sense to have Kerry Bishé's character fall into the same group as JD, Turk, and the other of the original Scrubs cast - even if it is bending the truth.
