The incredible record number of Emmy awards this year, it's obvious that it hit its stride.

Because of the changes it made over the course of its run, numerous storylines and plot details were introduced, but were never fully explored. While they may have been left behind, it's interesting to see what might have been tackled had plans remained intact.

Selling The Town

When they first moved to Schitt's Creek, the Rose family wanted nothing more than to leave and never return. To get the money they needed to escape, Johnny put the town back on the market. Being a skilled salesman, the patriarch thought the town would be easy to sell but did not realize it had already been on the market for 20 years by the time he bought it in 1991.

At the end of season 1, the Roses did get a potential buyer, but he died before the papers could be signed. After this, selling the town does not appear to be pursued again, despite the Roses' desire to get back to their regular lives.

Alexis and Mutt's Relationship

Mutt talking to Alexis outside on Schitt's Creek

Much of Alexis's journey throughout season 1 was spent determining her feelings for Mutt and whether this was a relationship she wanted to happen. It was a classic 'Will They/Won't They' dynamic that was expected to last for a decent portion of the show.

The two ended up getting together at the beginning of season 2 but broke up after 6 episodes. Surprisingly, they never got back together and Mutt ended up taking a road trip, only returning one time before the series concluded.

Mutt's Relationship With His Family

While Mutt's feelings for Alexis at least had a proper conclusion, his familial difficulties were not explored at all. Mutt was the son of Roland and Jocelyn Schitt, and audiences were led to believe that he was estranged from them, due to the differences in their personalities.

It was assumed this would at some point be resolved, but it never was. In fact, the tension is hardly ever spoken of again. It's possible that the decision to have Alexis' main relationship be with Ted, rather than Mutt, led to the character's story being removed from the plot.

Stevie's Feelings For David

Stevie and David may have been best friends, but there was a brief period where they decided to take things further. This led Stevie to develop feelings for David, who didn't return them. Valuing their friendship, Stevie put her feelings aside, claiming she was over him.

After a drunken kiss, however, it was clear Stevie still felt something for David. When David starts dating Patrick, this issue appeared to be dropped. Their relationship was cemented as friendship, but there was never any implication as to when and how Stevie was able to move on.

Moira's Fruit Wine Commercial

Moira's Fruit Wine Commercial

The Roses were really starved for money at the beginning of the series. One of the few assets they had was Moira's celebrity, which led her to be asked to be in a commercial for a local vineyard's winery. Unfortunately, Moira's nerves get the better of her and she struggled to produce a quality ment.

Still, by all s, the commercial was released, as was a print ad. Oddly, the money she received for the commercial, nor the likely viral nature of the clip, was ever mentioned. While not an A-list celebrity by any means, Moira is a well-known actress, who's movie premiere later became a hot topic due to equally absurd events.

Patrick's Fiancé

David's business partner turned boyfriend was introduced as the perfect guy. He was charming, smart, and loved David for everything that he was. Thus, it was a shocker when it was revealed that he had an ex-fiancé he had yet to tell of his sexuality.

This monumental part of Patrick's life was largely side-stepped, focusing instead on David's reaction to the news. It is never touched on how this affected Patrick's hometown friends, and his family still don't find out about his sexuality until the following season.

Stevie and Emir's Relationship

When Emir came into the picture, he hit it off right away with the motel owner. They quickly became intimate, with Stevie thinking they were headed for a real relationship. Emir, however, did not want to move beyond anything other than fun.

While Stevie had her fair share of failed relationships, the heartbreak she felt in this instance was different. Their clear connection made it seem like there was more that would happen between the two, but after Emir made his intentions clear, he was never seen again.

David's Failing Business

David and Patrick open up a beautiful store in Schitt's Creek, selling an assortment of local brands to the townspeople. It has a grand opening and appears to be headed for great success, but the rest of the series shows that business is slow. In fact, there are multiple jokes about the lack of customers in the store.

Despite this, there were never any attempts to drive up more business and fix the problems that are clearly present. Instead, David and Patrick continue to operate the store, without any real concern that their shop is usually pretty empty.

The New Motel

The first attempt at expanding the Rosebud Motel chain, buying the second motel was a big decision made by Johnny and Stevie. Unable to get a loan for it, Roland had to be brought on as a third partner and take out a second mortgage on his house. After this succeeds, however, it is quickly discovered that the building's foundation had serious issues.

This led to an entirely new business plan, where the three launch an entire chain at once. It was a drastic shift from what was a very big venture and the show never returned to the venue to showcase what was being done with it.

Stevie Leaving Schitt's Creek

Stevie Leaving Schitt's Creek

There was always a sense that Stevie wanted to escape her hometown and do something more with her life. This bubbles over late in season 5 when Stevie performs in Cabaret, which leads her to seek new opportunities. She wants more than to run the motel and expand the business.

In season 6, she is hired as a flight attendant for a sketchy airline and quickly quits. After this, she chooses to stay in Schitt's Creek and continue her partnership with Johnny and Roland. While she makes the point that she just needed to explore other options to know that this is what she really wanted, by the time the finale credits rolled, Stevie really didn't explore much else before settling back into her old life.
