The Vision, but her best romance might be between her and another hero altogether: Brother Voodoo. Wanda Maximoff is forever affected by her time with Vision, but both of them have long begun to move past their ill-gotten attempt at marriage and building a family together. In particular, over the last few years Scarlet Witch has found herself heading in a new direction romantically with one Jericho Drumm. Not much of the couple's journey has been told, meaning there's quite a lot of story potential one of Marvel's more magical pairings.
Scarlet Witch and Vision's romance is an iconic piece of Marvel Comics history, but it is one that leaves both characters deeply marked by trauma. They fell for each other back in the '70s, and their tragic romance finally ended in 2012. With that kind of longevity also came a significant level of baggage for both characters. Not only was the relationship one of the earliest romances for both Wanda and Vision, but the presence of Wonder Man, the death and rebirth of Vision in West Coast Avengers arc Visionquest, and the loss of their sons Billy and Tommy only complicated matters endlessly. For Scarlet Witch it all came to a head with her infamous actions in the Avengers Disassembled and House of M storylines. Vision also had a drastic response to the demise of their marital and familial bonds, but the intervening decade has seen both heroes begin to recover and find new ways to define themselves.
In the midst of moving on, Scarlet Witch happens to meet Brother Voodoo. Becoming teammates on one of the later iterations of the Avengers Unity Squad, Wanda and Jericho hit it off quickly. In Uncanny Avengers #30 by Jim Zub, Sean Izaakse, Tamra Bonvillain, VC's Clayton Cowles, and Tom Brevoort the two have a heart-to-heart, and formally begin their romance. Notably, Wanda seeks a healthier balance between her duties and desires as she tells Brother Voodoo, "I've never been with someone who understands both sides of me... the woman and the witch. I want to find that balance, will you search for it with me?" Her declaration rings with a maturity that Scarlet Witch has only been allowed to have recently as a character, and starting her relationship with Brother Voodoo from this mindset sets the stage for a beautiful romance.
Sadly, not much more of the romance occurs on , as the only other mention of their love comes in a quick acknowledgment that the two have moved in together. However, the brief amount insight into Scarlet Witch and Brother Voodoo's relationship that has been given to readers does not make it any less meaningful for Wanda and Jericho. Scarlet Witch’s history with Vision is one that both of them will be dealing with for the rest of their lives. In contrast, Jericho is Wanda’s first love interest to be a magic , meaning he understands her in a way no other lover has. Also, Wanda’s complicated time with Vision and how it connects to House of M and the Decimation are all things Wanda has been bogged down with as a character. For more than a decade of publication she hasn’t been able to really move forward. This unexpected, but tender and mature relationship that builds between her and Jericho finally pivots her in a new direction, letting her grow rather than stagnate as a character.
One can only hope that a writer with ion and editorial go-ahead takes time to explore more of Wanda and Jericho's relationship in an ongoing story. In fact, both Wanda and Jericho are currently faculty at Strange Academy. Perhaps an arc could examine how Scarlet Witch and Brother Voodoo handle being coworkers and partners and show fans why Wanda's best romance isn't with Vision after all.
