The issue, written by Al Ewing with art by Juan Frigeri and colors by Federico Blee, opens with a galaxy under siege on several fronts, stretching the Guardians thin. The Progenitors, an extremely powerful race, have invaded the Kree-Skrull Throneworld. Hulkling and Wiccan are on the scene, and Hulkling is able to kill a Progenitor with his new sword Ekz’el-Zorr (Excelsior), the Sword of Space. He describes the sword as magical with the ability to disrupt magic as well. The Progentior, who apparently contains magic in its body, falls quickly.

Hulkling Excelsior

The Scarlet Witch is an immensely powerful sorcerer, capable of manipulating reality, as seen in events such as House of M. The Sword of Space could prove quite useful in combat against her but seeing as it is in possession of her son-in-law, she probably has little to fear, barring another Doom scheming to the galaxy’s premier peacekeeping force just to steal a weapon he can then use against his opponents later.

The Space Sword is a fascinating weapon, and one that will hopefully play a larger role in the stories to come. It is powerful enough to seriously harm the Scarlet Witch, one of Marvel’s most powerful magicians, and while she may not need worry about it right now with Hulkling, the possibility of it falling into the wrong hands is great—and a threat that will have to be dealt with.
