Elizabeth Olsen says Scarlet Witch's Wanda Maximoff became one of the strongest MCU characters during this time, which only increased interest in seeing more of her. Marvel Studios found a way to make this possible by having Scarlet Witch star in the first MCU Disney+ show, WandaVision.

With four episodes released so far, WandaVision is already nearly half-way through its nine-episode first season. There is still a lot of the story left to tell, but Marvel has already confirmed there will be more of Wanda. Scarlet Witch is returning for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Olsen is currently in London filming the next chapter of Wanda's story, which is due to hit theaters in early 2022 now. Fans are still largely in the dark about what lies ahead for Scarlet Witch in the MCU, but Olsen feels that her Doctor Strange 2 role will be earned by the time WandaVision ends.

Olsen recently appeared on Vanity Fair's Still Watching Podcast (via Comicbook) and discussed her past, present, and future as Scarlet Witch. She revealed how doing WandaVision made her fall more in love with playing Wanda, but it also made her more excited for where the character is going next. Olsen didn't reveal any details about Scarlet Witch's Doctor Strange 2 role, but her tease that there is a transition could be enough to get the minds of MCU fans spinning.

And now, I’m excited for the next thing… I just signed on because I liked the character, because of the comics, and I thought the Age of Ultron story was really powerful and fun, angsty and rebellious, and really an honorable story to tell. Now, it’s this completely new thing that it never was at the beginning. The transition from WandaVision to Doctor Strange 2, I just feel like it’s all so earned.

It's possible that Olsen just alluded to some of the more popular theories about WandaVision and Scarlet Witch's MCU future being true. Fans have long speculated that Wanda could be the villain of Doctor Strange 2 and the reason for the multiverse of madness that ensues. WandaVision is just beginning to explore the possibility that Scarlet Witch is behind the strange occurrences happening at Westview. While she has maintained a mostly happy domestic life with Vision so far, the possibility of it being ripped away from her could send Wanda spiraling. Scarlet Witch transitioning back to a villain is something that WandaVision could set up before Doctor Strange 2.

That said, Scarlet Witch's story being a "new thing" could even point to how WandaVision might retcon aspects of her past. There have been a lot of theories that the show will reveal Wanda is actually a mutant and that she'll help usher mutants into the MCU. Marvel Studios never imagined Scarlet Witch would be a mutant back in 2015, but now that Disney bought Fox, the MCU has access to mutants for the first time. A Scarlet Witch mutant reveal could even be tied to WandaVision kicking off a House of M adaptation that spans all of Phase 4. While it remains to be seen how directly WandaVision sets up Scarlet Witch's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness role, Olsen is clearly excited about what lies ahead.
