Quick Links
Completing the Pokédex has been the mission of Pokémon Trainers since the very first Pokémon games, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are no different. While it’s no longer possible for players to catch all 1008 species of Pokémon, players exploring the great outdoors in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet can find an impressive 400 different Pokémon species. These include old favorites and classic Pokémon from generations past, as well as newly discovered Pokémon native to the Paldea region. However, many of these Pokémon can be tricky to find, and players will need to journey all over Paldea to complete their Pokédexes.
Aside from using the best Pokémon and moves to catch Pokémon, players will also have to find Pokémon in other ways. This includes Pokémon evolution, as many Pokémon species form evolutionary lines and can evolve into a wide variety of different forms. Some Pokémon evolve by leveling up, while others evolve when exposed to evolutionary stones or under certain environmental conditions. In their quest to complete the Pokédex, players will also find a few Pokémon species that can be found only in specific locations or have strange requirements for triggering evolution. Here’s every Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and where they can be found.

One thing players should take note of is version-exclusive Pokémon. Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet each have several exclusive Pokémon that cannot be found in the other version. While the debate continues over which Pokémon game has the best exclusive Pokémon, players should be aware that they will need to trade for any version-exclusive Pokémon from the other game they don’t own. Apart from version-exclusive Pokémon, players should be able to catch or evolve every Pokémon they need for the Pokédex.
It should be noted however that some of the Pokémon in the Paldea Pokédex, particularly Legendary Pokémon, can only be found after completing the three main storylines of the game. This includes some Pokémon found in Area Zero, many of which are high-level fully evolved Pokémon species that will prove challenging even for skilled Pokémon Trainers to face. Players will also have to journey here to catch Koraidon and Miraidon, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s box art Legendary Pokémon.
With 400 Pokémon to be found and caught, completing the Paldea Pokedex in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is no small challenge, but with plenty of time and effort, players should be able to catch them all.
