With the new Samsung's radar. Samsung has continued to maintain a bi-annual launch event for its flagships. The first half of the year sees the Korean giant announce new Galaxy S series smartphones, while the second half of the year, which used to be reserved for the Galaxy Note series, is now for the Galaxy Z line.
The last three generations of the Galaxy S series have received some modifications. There are now four models in the Galaxy S series, including an Ultra model and an FE model. In addition, the Galaxy S series has gained stylus , starting with the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The S Pen, an optional accessory with the Galaxy S21 Ultra, is now built into the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Don't Fix What Isn't Broken?
The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus will reportedly keep the design of the Galaxy S22. This means both phones will have a glass and aluminum sandwich design, an IP68 dust and water resistance rating, a centered punch hole and triple rear cameras. Considering the Galaxy S22 phones are well-made and feature high-grade materials such as Corning's Gorilla Glass Victus+ and Armor aluminum frame, there shouldn't be an issue with the new phones. In addition, the source mentions the smartphones will have the same display, sensors and cameras as their predecessors.
To recap, the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus use a Dynamic AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. However, Galaxy S23 might get a selfie camera upgrade. It remains to be seen if that will happen. Another part of the phone that is reportedly not getting an upgrade is the battery. While the source is not sure, a battery upgrade seems necessary, at least for the Galaxy S23, considering battery life is one of the Galaxy S22's weaknesses. However, if the battery capacity doesn't change, there might be an improvement in battery life due to the new chipset. Qualcomm's new chip should be more power efficient than its predecessor, translating to longer battery life.
Samsung seems to be once again going for minimal upgrades, just as it did with the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. Nevertheless, there will be expected to be enough new features to win over new s. And if the trade-in offers are as good as those of its new foldable smartphones, then a fair share of Galaxy S22 owners are bound to upgrade their devices as well. However, the Galaxy S23 series is not expected to arrive until the first quarter of 2023, which is still months away. So there are bound to be more details surfacing as the launch draws closer.
