Summary

  • A new Taiwanese rating hints at a possible remaster of Bully for multiple platforms, sparking excitement among fans of the cult classic.
  • Rockstar's history of revisiting older games suggests that a modern port of Bully is a strong possibility for the future.
  • While leaks should be taken with caution, official listings for new platforms indicate a promising future for a potential updated version of Bully.

As rumors regarding a remastered version of Red Dead Redemption continue to swirl, another beloved one of its most underrated cult classics has comparatively little violence in it given that the bulk of the narrative takes place within the grounds of an especially strict school.

Per Gematsu, a Taiwanese rating for a PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC version of Bully has just been filed. While there's no word on whether this is a remaster of the game, it stands to reason that an updated version would require a new rating given that it will be available as a product separate from the original. Some have speculated that the leak may be connected to Rockstar's recent announcement of Bully coming to GTA+ but there's usually a few months between a game's rating and announcement so the timeline doesn't add up.

Fans Have Demanded A Remaster For Years

This is by no means the first time rumors have spread regarding a remastered version of Bully: Throughout 2021 and 2022, several supposed insiders insisted that Rockstar was working on a remake of the game. While these claims ultimately didn't amount to anything, this leak seems far more likely to be accurate. It's not often that a ratings board makes a mistake by accepting a project that's not in development, so having an official listing for the game on new platforms indicates a certain level of legitimacy.

While it is true that Rockstar is adding Bully to GTA+ on August 20, it's not typical of a studio to apply for a rating simply to have a game that's almost two decades old added to a new subscription service. As with all leaks, it's wise to wait for some kind of official confirmation from Rockstar. Having said that, the odds are looking more and more likely that, at the very least, a port of Bully is coming to modern platforms.

Rockstar has been making an effort to return to some of its older games as it recently released Red Dead Redemption for both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. More rumors are swirling that the game could also be coming to PC in the near future but these claims have yet to be confirmed. As for Bully, fans will just have to wait and see if Rockstar sees a future for the game in the current generation.
