Gameplay for the RoboCop was a Mortal Kombat universe guest. In addition to RoboCop's signature pistol, gameplay featured a variety of creative environmental kills that perfectly complement the visceral gameplay the developers seem to be aiming for.

The trailer was short but featured some beautifully gory action to complement what little story was teased. What little story was given seems to primarily revolve around RoboCop as he combats a new crime wave in a futuristic depiction of Detroit. As he does so, RoboCop is seemingly confronted with images from his past as Alex Murphy that cause him to hesitate, allowing the bad guys to escape with what appears to be a large sum of money. What follows is a corporate-sanctioned massacre of the bad guys involved and seemingly promises a little insight into how the memories of Alex Murphy may be resurfacing in the emotionless killer that is RoboCop.

RoboCop: Rogue City's new, original story aside, the gameplay seems to capture the visceral brutality of Paul Verhoeven's classic very well, and even seems to be aspiring to dive into some themes addressed in the film as well. While the only weapon showcased in the trailer seems to be RoboCop's signature Auto 9 pistol, there seem to be many creative and brutal ways to dispatch the bad guys in dystopian Detroit.

Environmental Kills Offer Creative Ways to Dispatch Foes in RoboCop: Rogue City

The ED-209 was featured in the new RoboCop Rogue City gameplay trailer.

First up is simple gunplay using the Auto 9. While using the Auto 9, RoboCop appears to automatically track bad guys using visual cues ripped straight from the movie. When hit, foes appear to explode in blood and chunks which is itself very reminiscent of the action classic. While visually satisfying, the Auto 9 is not the only method of killing shown off in the trailer.

RoboCop: Rogue City's first gameplay trailer (posted to YouTube by publisher Nacon) centered on environmental kills, which offer a creative mix-up from the standard shooter gameplay. Players can see RoboCop kicking a dumpster into foes, throwing them into steel beams, shattering wooden crates, and even using the classic explosive barrels to dispatch enemies. Additionally, as teased in the trailer, ED-209 makes an appearance. While the interaction in the trailer appeared adversarial, ED-209 robots have been known to side with RoboCop on some occasions, potentially opening up the large mech as an ally in the war on crime.

Sadly, the shortness of the trailer made it difficult to see just how extensive the kills can be in RoboCop but from the glimpse given, players should be expecting a wealth of gory, creative deaths. Ultimately, the RoboCop: Rogue City appears to be a faithful adaptation of the franchise with plenty of its signature violence.
