The critically acclaimed and award-winning artist Ricardo Delgado returns to the world of Dracula and Transylvania as he prepares to release The Art of Dracula of Transylvania into the world. The artist is perhaps best known for creating Age of Reptiles, a comic book series from Dark Horse Comics spanning 22 years that earned him an Eisner Award for Talent Deserving of Wider Recognition back in 1997. He's also had his fingerprints in Hollywood as he's worked in the animation and art departments for works like Men in Black, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Among his most recent works as an author and artist is Dracula of Transylvania, a now sold-out illustrated novel that puts a fresh twist on the classic Bram Stoker tale. Age of Reptiles writer Ricardo Delgado conceived this story as an 1899-era Transylvania tale where young solicitor Jonathan Harker crosses paths with the famous vampire, who in this version is the Son of Satan. The novel infused Stoker's novel with the pace of a modern thriller, and thrived in publication thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign.
The same can be said for Delgado's new follow-up, The Art of Dracula of Transylvania. Coming to life Clover Press via Beyond just Dracula himself, these pages are littered with demons, witches, and the nightmarish beings that wander the universe of Dracula of Transylvania. There's also a foreword from horror writer/director Donald F. Glut and an introduction from film historian Gary D. Rhodes. In addition, Delgado uses annotations to go in-depth about his process in drawing his creations and his thoughts on why he created them to begin with. Readers can check out an exclusive preview of the book's cover art and the spooky contents of its pages below.
Ricardo Delgado Offers An In-Depth Look At His Process
The meticulous pen of Ricardo Delgado has created concept art for several movies (including Star Trek: First ), television shows, and comic books, but this marks the first time that he lets the viewer in on his process. For the first time in his career, The Art of Dracula of Transylvania will be offering an in-depth look at what inspires the disturbing yet hypnotic genius of his artwork, the method to his madness, so to speak. This book is not just for die-hard fans of vampires or Dracula, but for avid fans of artwork in general, along with those interested in the process behind it. In a press release, Delgado said:
"The world of DRACULA OF TRANSYLVANIA is a vast, macabre tapestry of light mixed with shadow,” said Delgado. “An entire supernatural realm is now revealed to the world. I’m glad that everyone who enjoyed the novel can now pick up this wonderful companion piece to further experience this elemental parable of good and evil. I am thankful to Bram Stoker for his original, visionary work of literature, and happy that DRACULA OF TRANSYLVANIA can be a part of this incredible legacy”
Clover Press Publisher Hank Kanalz added:
“DRACULA OF TRANSYLVANIA is a stunning work from Ricardo. He created a rich new Transylvania, and we felt that the artwork in his illustrated novel just wasn’t enough,” said Kanalz. “When we were chatting with Ricardo about his next project with us, he revealed he had a few more pieces he hadn’t shared. A few meaning well over 150 additional pieces — so we knew we had to follow up with this art collection.”
