Like a lot of games, current-gen horror roguelike, exclusive to PS5.

Returnal has received fairly impressive reviews, including a few perfect scores. Graphically, the game really pops, and its developer, Housemarque, has put a huge focus on gameplay that has many a player caught by its dark charms this week. Since the release, gamers have been doing their due diligence trying to discover as much as they possibly can about the game, including taking a dive into the game’s behind-the-scenes architecture. This isn’t the easiest task with a game exclusive to a console, especially not one so new as Returnal's PS5, so access to game files is so far limited.

Recently, Reddit without the roguelike difficulty.

Some think that Returnal may even be a bit too time-consuming with its difficulty. A glaring issue that players noted immediately was a lack of autosaves or manual saves. While a lot of roguelikes have this feature so that you can stop playing and come back to where you left off, Returnal does not. This means players are having to commit full hours to the game without a break in order to reach the next autosave, and some people simply don’t have the time for this. Housemarque has acknowledged these complaints, and while nothing has been officially done yet, they assure fans that their concerns have been heard.

As it is, there are already concerns about how long it takes to beat Returnal, Roguelikes are often huge time commitments as it is. These autosave issues could encourage more players to use cheats in order to get through the game. The cheats clearly exist, and they’re fairly simple to implement. Many players likely can’t help but wonder if this is a better route for them given their busy schedules. After all, cheats would still allow them to explore and experience Returnal, even if it’s not in the way that Housemarque intended.
